Master Thesis Roma imparatorluk öncesi dönem dini kurumları ve hukuka etkisi(2024) Abanoz, Erol Özgür; Karaaslan, MuzafferThis thesis examines the interaction between religious institutions and legal structures in the Kingdom and Republic periods of Rome and their legal reflections on societal structure. During the Kingdom period, spiritual and legal authorities were closely intertwined, with the king (rex) acting as both a political and religious leader. In this era, law was sacred, and religious institutions played a central role in maintaining social order. With the transition to the Republic period, law evolved into a more secular structure, and religious institutions assumed a more limited role in public life. However, institutions like the pontifices continued to occupy a critical position where legal and religious domains heavily overlapped, though their influence gradually declined towards the end of the Republic. These institutions held broad responsibilities, including legal advisory, organizing religious rituals, and ensuring societal harmony. This thesis aims to analyze the historical transformation of Rome's religious and legal systems, revealing the influence of religion on law and the societal implications of this interaction.
