Article Citation - WoS: 33Citation - Scopus: 36Antecedents to supply chain innovation(EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LTD, 2020) Fatma Nur Karaman Kabadurmus; Kabadurmus, Ozgur; Karaman Kabadurmus, Fatma Nur; Kabadurmuş, Fatma Nur KaramanPurpose The purpose of this study is to examine organizational and environmental (competition capital scarcity and organization of labor) factors that affect firms' innovation activities within the supply chain. Design/methodology/approach This study empirically examines the factors that affect firms' innovation activities using firm-level data from the last round of Business Environment Enterprise Performance Surveys (BEEPS). The analysis covers major supply chain functions: production delivery and support systems. Findings The study shows that drivers of innovation vary with the type of innovation activity, as such innovation efforts across supply chain functions should prioritize strategic resources that will create competitive advantages. Our results also reveal that sustainability efforts in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region should prioritize labor market reforms over capital market reforms. Originality/value Current research on innovation and supply chain issues does not explicitly analyze innovations that occur in different sustainable supply chain functions and empirical studies that focus on the determinants of innovations in the supply chain network are very limited. The data used in this study cover 30 economies in EECA many of which are low- and middle-income countries and thus contribute to the implementation of sustainable practices in developing countries.Article Corruption and Innovation: The Case of EECA Countries(2017) FATMA NUR KARAMAN KABADURMUŞ; Kabadurmuş, Fatma Nur KaramanAlthough the effect of corruption on country-level investment is studied widely in literature only a limited number of research has sought to understand how corruption affects firm-level innovation. Using firm-level data for twenty seven Eastern European and Central Asian countries we empirically investigate how corruption affects in-novation. We find that corruption has a positive effect on the rate of innovation. This finding is robust to alternative measurement proxies. Master Thesis Drivers of E-Commerce in Turkey(2020) İlter, Burakhan; Kabadurmuş, Fatma Nur KaramanWith the increasing internet usage and internet access quality, the facilities provided by the internet are increasing nowadays and adding new concepts to our lives. One of these new concepts in our lives is e-commerce which takes traditional commerce to a different dimension and makes it easier, faster and more efficient to trade. With the increasing internet access rates and the number of websites which become easier to use day by day, people have become more adapted to using e-commerce. As the increasing volume of e-commerce affects the socioeconomic and administrative structures of countries, policymakers have increased their support for innovation investments and enabling regulations in e-commerce. In this thesis, the issue of e-commerce is examined and the factors affecting e-commerce in Turkey are analyzed. The development of e-commerce in the world and Turkey are discussed by the use of e-commerce statistics. By using a firm-level data set from the World Bank's 2015 Turkey Regional Enterprise Survey, the factors affecting e-commerce in Turkey are empirically analyzed by a logit model. As a result of this analysis, firm size, export status, existence of a company website, and innovativeness variables are found to be the most important drivers of e-commerce in Turkey.Master Thesis Küresel krizin Türk gıda sektörü ticaretine etkileri(2020) Esnafoğlu, Özge; Kabadurmuş, Fatma Nur KaramanDue to high free flow capital across countries, economic crises that large countries experience have devastating consequences in today's globalized world. The financial crisis that started out as a mortgage crisis in the United States quickly spread to other countries. One of the worsely affected regions was Europe, where as a result, European debt crisis started. In this study, firstly, the concept of crisis and types of economic crisis were examined. After explaining the concept and types of crises, the impacts of the crisis on Turkey's economy are discussed. After the importance of the food sector in Turkey is examined, the impacts of the crisis on this sector are discussed. Using trade data for the agriculture sector, which is an integral part of the food sector, the changes in the export and import figures were examined. For the empirical analysis, Turkish export demand is modeled using panel data. Empirical analysis was carried out using 2000- 2018 data to reveal the effects of the crisis on Turkish food sector trade. As a result, the results reveal that the crisis has a positive effect on export demand of Turkey's food sector, and both income and price elasticities fell after the crisis. We aimed to understand how different socioeconomic factors could create diverse healthcare costs for PLHIV in Turkey.MethodsData were collected between January 2017 and December 2017. HIV-positive people attending the clinic who had been referred to the national ART programme from January 1992 until December 2017 were surveyed. The questionnaire collected socioeconomic data. The cost data for the same patients was taken from the electronic database Probel Hospital Information Management System (PHIMS) for the same period. The PHIMS data include costs for medication (highly active antiretroviral therapy or HAART) laboratory pathology radiology polyclinic examination and consultation hospitalisation surgery and intervention blood and blood products supplies and other costs. Data were analysed using STATA 14.2 to estimate the generalised linear model (GLM).ResultsThe findings of our GLM indicate that age gender marital and parental status time since diagnosis employment wealth status illicit drug use and CD4 cell count are the factors significantly related to the healthcare cost of patients. We found that compared with people who have AIDS (CD4 cells <200 cells/mm(3)) people who have a normal range of CD4 cells ( 500 cells/mm(3)) have $1046 less in expenditures on average. Compared to younger people (19-39years) older people (>= 55) have $1934 higher expenditures on average. Costs are $644 higher on average for married people and $401 higher on average for people who have children. Healthcare costs are $518 and $651 higher on average for patients who are addicted to drugs and who use psychiatric drug(s) respectively. Compared to people who were recently diagnosed with HIV people who were diagnosed >= 10years ago have $743 lower expenditures on average.ConclusionOur results suggest that in addition to immunological status socioeconomic factors play a substantial role in the healthcare costs of PLHIV. The key factors influencing the healthcare costs of PLHIV are also critical for public policy makers healthcare workers health ministries and employment community programs.Article The Relationship Between Logistics Performance and Innovation: An Empirical Study Of Turkish Firms(2019) FATMA NUR KARAMAN KABADURMUŞ; Kabadurmuş, Fatma Nur KaramanThe aim of the study is to explore whether logistics performance affects firms’ innovation decisions.
