    Trademarks, protection of trademarks and trademark law has reached the important position because of development of technology and growing of international markets. For this reason, companies and real persons apply for trademark registration frequently, for protect their commercial rights. According to Industrial Property Code, trademarks can be any kind of sign that is providing distinctiveness and may be displayed clearly and precisely in the registration. In addition, the Code specifically states that personal names can be trademarks. Therefore, personal names and surnames can be registered as a trademark. There may also be legal obstacles regarding absolute and relative grounds for refusal in the registration of personal name as trademark. In our study, first of all, general information about personal name and the trademark is given, and then absolute and relative refusal situations that may arise in the registration of personal name as trademarks are examined.
