    Changing face of banks and the evaluation of internet banking in Turkey

    Banking historically has been a sector based on individual or institutional client service. In today's browser-based competitive finance world banks need to flourish this client service viewpoint with web-empowered features for keeping clients and attracting prospective ones. Internet has emerged as a key competitive field for the future of financial services. In a sense it is almost synonymous with change. Banks especially commercial ones are swiftly becoming more aware of the importance of internet banking in this era. This topic was selected to dilate the current developments and implications of internet banking in Turkey which has been repeatedly cited as an emerging market with its growing sectors over the period 2005 and 2008. © Bora Aktan Edip Teker and Pervin Ersoy 2009. © 2009 Elsevier B.V.     There is a conceptual difference of the meanings of tariff between the term used in tariff and barriers out of tariffs used in literature of international economic and term used as tariff in practice. Tariff is used functionally in the meaning of support rather than barriers nowadays. Therefore, it is no longer true to evaluate the meaning of tariff in term of barriers and tax.The purposes of the present thesis are (i) to make possible of paying more attention to legislative, functional, and technical sides of tariff in addition to its tax side in academic research, (ii) to warn practitioners and regulators about TARIC which is an obligatory legislative procedures in context of EU that our country wants to get involved, (iii) to contribute to involvement in this legislative structure by figuring out the sources of these problems that arise in adaptation process.The importance of the present thesis is about the linkages among TARİC, EU and Custom Union. Custom Union constitutes the basis of EU. TARİC constitutes a basis of Custom Union by setting the structure of Goods Descriptions and Coding Systems. There is not enough academic attention to the mentioned issue on which the present thesis is needed to focus on.

    FUND MANAGERS PERFORMANCE IN TURKEY: AN EMPIRICAL EVALUATION

    The aim of this study is to investigate whether some certain characteristics of fund managers help to explain their performance in the context of an emerging market Turkey. We test the statistical significance between two measures of fund manager performance (number of clients and portfolio size) and fund manager characteristics such as education job experience etc by using a survey methodology to obtain primary data and applying the ordered choice models. Both measures of performance are positively correlated with the number of training courses attended and the number of years of experience in a particular organization.

    Solving Generalized Traveling Salesman Problem by Using Discrete Differantial Evaluation Algorithm Hibrydized Wıth Local Search Heurıstic

    Bu tezde genellestirilmis gezgin satıcı probleminin çözümü için yerel tarama ile birlestirilmis kesikli farksal evrim algoritması sunulmustur. Genellestirilmis gezgin satıcı probleminde bir satıcının is yaptıgı sehirler kümelere ayrılır ve satıcının her kümeden yalnız bir sehre ugrayarak en kısa yoldan turu tamamlaması beklenir.Bu algoritmayı test etmek için, GTSPLIB kütüphanesinde bulunan, sehir ve küme sayıları 48 (10) ile 1084 (217) arasında degisen 54 test problemi kullanılmıstır.Sonuçların deneysel analizlerinin yapılması ile, algoritma en iyi sonuçları veren Bontoux, Artigues ve Feillet'in (2009) Memetik Algoritması, Tasgetiren, Suganthan ve Pan'ın (2009) eDDE algoritması, Synder ve Daskin'in (2006) RKGA veSilberholz ve Golden'ın (1997), mrOXGA ile kıyaslanmıstır. Sonuç olarak, eniyi degerleri bilinen 41 test probleminin sonuçları kıyaslandıgında, KFE Algoritması mrOXGA, MA ve eDDE algoritmasına esdeger oldugu ancak RKGA'dan daha iyi sonuçlar ürettigi görülmüstür.
