    Master Thesis
Bir güncel sanat pratiği olarak beden performans sanatı ve İtalyan performans sanatçıları
    (2015) Vardar, Berrin; Kahyaoğlu, Mehmet
This thesis aims to study the body performance art included in the contemporary art, reasons setting the ground for its emergence and development and to investigate the situation of the performance art and artists in Italy. The body with its structure limited yet protecting the organs had fallen into the research field of anatomical inquiry and surgical interventions at the beginning, and it was regarded as the source of diseases and the prison of the spirit in the medieval. Handled with the existence of the reason, feelings, spirit and mind as of the enlightenment, the body has thus become one of the fields of study of the philosophy and sociology. Encountered in every discipline of the art, portrayals of the body converted the body to an artistic praxis and an object of creation with the performance art, making it a work of art on its own.The body performance has rejected the rules of creation existing in the other art disciplines and hence helped the artist go beyond the rules of telling to liberate him/her. First, changes starting to be seen in the social life with the existence of the modernization and the civilization have alienated the human body to the society, and then the existence of the governances has thoroughly alienated it to itself. The body performance art is a sort of struggle for liberation of the body regarded as the most convenient structure for manipulation and dominated by the governances, and considering its discourse the language of the body performance art features the language of a revolt overlapping with the struggle for freedom. Handled as a current artistic praxis, the performance art has been studied in limitations of violence and feminism, practices of and theories on the performance art in the international arena have been addressed, tellings of the Italian performance art and artists have been studied with the parameters of the thesis, and examples for the performance art have been described with the practical theories.
