Air logistics in the digital era: a content analysis for current trends and future directions
(Inderscience Publishers, 2024) Volkan Yavas; Yeşim Deniz Özkan-Özen; Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Yavas, Volkan
Digitalisation through the new industrial revolution results in a great transformation in all stages of the supply chains and air logistics industry under logistics need to embrace these changes to achieve smarter processes and higher efficiency. Current literature related to digitalisation in air logistics lacks in providing a holistic perspective in the field. From this perspective this study reveals current approaches and future trends in digitalised air logistics by conducting a two-staged content analysis. First using VOSViewer software a visualisation is performed with co-occurrence network analysis through keywords in related studies in WOS and SCOPUS databases respectively. Then qualitative data analysis is carried out with MAXQDA and related studies were evaluated in detail. Because of the evaluation of all three analyses together the keywords 'air logistics digital ICT RFID and technology' stand out. These are followed by the keywords 'blockchain cloud collaboration freight future innovation intelligence IoT simulation and smart'. At the end of the study a framework for digitalised air logistics industry that includes research trends i.e. policy development technology development and sustainable development is structured and implications are integrated with results. © 2024 Elsevier B.V. Bibliometric analysis of the transformation in air logistics operations in terms of digitalization and sustainability
(UNIVERSITA DEGLI STUDI DI TORINO, 2023) Volkan Yavas; Yesim Deniz Ozkan-Ozen; Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Yavas, Volkan
Digitalization and sustainability are essential in today's globalized business environment. Within the logistics sector aviation plays a critical role in this dynamic environment by enabling rapid safe transportation worldwide. While applying new approaches air logistics processes should incorporate the technologies and applications enabled by digitalization and consider environmental social and economic sustainability impacts. These can be mutually beneficial in that new digital technologies can reduce environmental impacts make a social contribution and increase economic gains. While there is rapidly expanding literature about integrating these concepts for various purposes in different sectors applications in air logistics are particularly promising. Accordingly this study contributes to digital and sustainable air logistics research by identifying current trends revealing gaps in knowledge and proposing future research directions. To do so a literature review and a bibliometric analysis were conducted using VosViewer software. As a result five potential research areas were proposed.

Drivers and barriers of unmanned aerial vehicles in emergency logistics operations
(Elsevier Ltd, 2025) Melisa Ozbiltekin-Pala; Volkan Yavas; Yeşim Deniz Özkan-Özen; Ozbiltekin-Pala, Melisa; Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Yavas, Volkan
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) which have become increasingly widespread stand out as accessible cost-effective useful and efficient options for many different tasks such as search and rescue monitoring tracking mapping and dispatch in emergency logistics operations. However in this process driving forces and obstacles determine the status of UAVs in disaster management. In this study in order to identify these factors 8 drivers and 8 barriers created as a result of the literature review were analyzed using the Graph Theory Matrix Approach method. According to the findings obtained the most important drivers of UAVs in emergency logistics operations are high-tech solutions followed by air surveillance and mapping. The most important barrier is instability against various weather conditions and regulators. Stakeholders of emergency logistics operations optimally interpret drivers and barriers in the involvement of UAVs and contribute to economic technical or legal corrective actions. © 2025 Elsevier B.V. Integration of Sustainability and Digitalization in Air Logistics: Current Trends and Future Agenda
(Springer Nature, 2023) Volkan Yavas; Yeşim Deniz Özkan-Özen; Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Yavas, Volkan
Digitalization and sustainability are two important concepts that affect the entire supply chain and therefore they should be considered together. As one of the most critical elements of supply chains logistics operations need consideration in terms of transforming through digitalization while taking sustainability goals into account. This study especially focuses on air logistics operations. Although sustainability in air logistics in terms of analysing environmental social and economic impacts is a popular topic there is a gap in the literature related to integration of sustainability and digitalization in air logistics operations. In order to fulfil the gap in the literature and to contribute in the research field this study conducts a content analysis to reveal the current trends and future agenda for sustainable air logistics in the digital era. In order to do that VOSViewer program is used for bibliometric analysis. At the end of the study potential research themes are proposed. © 2025 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Logistics centers in the new industrial era: A proposed framework for logistics center 4.0
(Elsevier Ltd, 2020) Volkan Yavas; Yeşim Deniz Özkan-Özen; Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Yavas, Volkan
This study focuses on the transformation of logistics centers in Industry 4.0. Aim is to reveal the important criteria for logistics centers in Industry 4.0 by considering link to traditional logistics centers practices and proposing a framework for new logistics centers. Initially literature review to reveal criteria for logistics centers in Industry 4.0 is conducted. Secondly fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making methodology is used to present the importance order and the causal relationship between criteria to make recommendations for future implications. The results may be useful for logistics center's professionals in transition process and new research topics may be derived for academics. © 2024 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
