    Master Thesis
Türkiye'deki üniversitelerin sürekli eğitim merkezlerinin web sitelerinin ikna edici iletişim açısından incelenmesi
    (2016) Zengel, Gamze; Atabek, Ümit
The importance of Lifelong Learning (LLL) in Turkey is continuously increasing. Parallel to this, universities well understood the significance of Continuing Education Centers (CECs) as LLL services and recently structured themselves accordingly. This thesis investigates the web communication activities of Turkish universities CECs. A literature review showed that there is no study on institutional web site communication activities of CECs in Turkey. This research analyzes the web site pages of eight sampled CECs in two phases. The first phase is the analysis of web pages with the method proposed by Gibson et.al. (2003) in terms of their functionality, and style and delivery characteristics. The second phase is the analysis of these pages in terms of their usage of persuasive communication style. For this analysis, all the texts are scanned by Yoshikoder software using a list of Turkish persuasive words in order to obtain their usage frequencies. Findings reveal that although functional characteristics of Turkish CECs' web sites are practically sufficient, they mostly have some poor style and delivery characteristics. Especially they noticeably lack a design suitable for a dialogic institutional communication. Additionally, it is also shown that foundation universities CECs' web sites pages use more persuasive communication style than informative communication style as compared to state universities. In this context, it is suggested that CECs use more informative communication style in their web sites since they perform a public service rather than a commercial activity.
