Article A new model for minimizing the electric vehicle battery capacity in electric\rtravelling salesman problem with time windows(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2021) Kazım Erdoğdu; KORHAN KARABULUT; Erdoğdu, Kazım; Karabulut, KorhanThe growing pollution in the environment and the negative shift in the global climate compel authorities\rto take action to protect the environment and human health. Transportation is one of the major contributors to this\renvironmental decay. The harmful gases released to the air by the vehicles using petroleum fuel increase each day. One\rof the solutions is to make a gradual transition to electric vehicles. A major part of manufacturing an electric vehicle\ris to produce an efficient electric motor and battery for it. Reducing the manufacturing and operating costs of these\rcomponents will result in reducing the overall costs of electric vehicles. In this study a new variant of the electric\rtravelling salesman problem with time windows (E-TSPTW) was proposed. The objective function of the problem is to\rminimize the required initial battery capacity of the electric vehicle. For this goal a new energy consumption model\rconsidering the load of the vehicle was proposed with three scenarios. The proposed model was solved with a hybrid\rsimulated annealing algorithm for all these scenarios. The performance of the proposed method was compared to the\rsolutions found by a mixed integer linear programming model. The experimental results on the benchmark instances\rshow that up to a 35% reduction in initial battery capacity hence reduction in its cost is possible.\rArticle Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 9A novel square-root domain realization of first order all-pass filter(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2010) Sinem ÖLMEZ; Uğur ÇAM; Çam, Uğur; Ölmez, SinemIn this paper a new square-root domain first order all-pass filter based on the MOSFET square law is presented. The proposed filter is designed by using nonlinear mapping on the state variables of a state space description of the transfer function. To the best knowledge of the authors the filter is the first square-root domain first order all-pass structure designed by using state space synthesis method in the literature. The center frequency of the all-pass filter is not only attainable at megahertz frequencies but also tunable by an external bias current. The proposed filter operated 2.5 V supply voltage is constructed by current mirrors geometric mean circuits a linear transconductor circuit and a capacitor. SPICE simulations are given to approve the theoretical analysis.Article Citation - Scopus: 1A proposed model for candidate selection process in political parties based on fuzzy logic methodology(Association for Scientific Research, 2012) METE EMİNAĞAOĞLU; Yılmaz GÖKŞEN; ONUR DOĞAN; Eminağaoğlu, Mete; Gökşen, Yılmaz; Doğan, OnurClassical logic and classical set theorems are not sufficient enough when it isnecessary to deal with complex decision making problems which also involve humanexperiences. In this study the parameters about the short circuit and the techniques of calculating the faults in system and the necessary theoretical knowledge for the short circuit fault to be understood better have been given. The effect on the distributed generation and the grid which is caused by the possible short circuit faults have been simulated by being modeled in PSS/Sincal and by using the real grid parameters with cogeneration power plant in Izmir Turkey. The real short circuit fault results measured from the power plant and the grid and the results obtained from the software program have been compared and it has been determined that there is not a significant difference between them. Thus it has been emphasized that it is correct to simulate before investing in a power system in for the purpose of restrain the faults during the designing and working before the application. It allows the designer to design new power plant as good as plan expansion of existing power plants with higher degree of precision. Considering the prices of protection equipment which has a large part in system design this way would allow designer to reduce the cost of the protective equipment and remaining stability.Article Architectural References within Émile Zola’s Novel The Ladies’ Paradise(Istanbul Univ, FAC Letters, 2022) Zeynep Tuna Ultav; Layal Al Sahli; müge sever; Tuna Ultav, Zeynep; Sever, Muge; Sahli, Layal Al; Alsahli, Layal; Ultav, Zeynep TunaThe depiction of space in literature is crucial to every story as it guides the reader’s imagination regarding the story’s location and the characters’ surroundings. This paper studies the relationship between architecture interiors and literary spaces by using a methodology that draws on architectural literary analysis a methodology that uses literature as a medium to define and analyze architectural spaces and cues. Specifically it investigates the connections between architectural and spatial references and their influences on societal concerns in literature – the literary space within The Ladies’ Paradise (1883) a novel by Émile Zola (1840-1902). The retail space portrayed within the novel dominates the narrative. Thus the architectural spaces are described to support the storyline. These spatial cues indicate a specific overall theme namely capitalism – an important issue to discuss within architectural discourse. Zola reveals a new perspective on the social and architectural impacts on society under capitalism through the public interior space of Ladies’ Paradise. The research also indicates the correlation between architecture public space and retailing culture through the birth of the “department store ” thus forever altering society’s ideology on retail culture. Although the novel is categorized as fictitious the representation of 19th-century retailing culture women’s role within society and the significance of architecture are shown to be realistic to that time. In conclusion this paper reveals the dialogue between architecture societal gender issues and the evolvement of retail culture through the medium of literature and derives lessons from this dialogue.Article Citation - Scopus: 8Bessel equation and Bessel function on $\\mathbb{T}(q h)$(Tubitak, 2022) Ahmet Yantir; BURCU SILINDIR YANTIR; Zehra TUNCER; Yantır, Burcu Sılındır; Tuncer, Zehra; Yantir, AhmetThis article is devoted to present nabla $(q h)$ -analogues of Bessel equation and Bessel function. Although “biophilia” has been well integrated as a design approach in Architectural and Urban Design it is yet to develop in industrial design. Employing a two-staged approach we aimed to define the biophilic characteristics of a product multidimensionally and examine their effects on the users’ preferences. The first stage consisted of empirical studies to describe the biophilic dimensions. This endeavor yielded a word set (N=78) that qualifies the biophilic dimensions (N=6). The words obtained consisted of biophilic design values and the hypothetical biophilic product dimensions that were proposed by researchers. Also we obtained a set of product images (N=18) to be used throughout the study. The second stage was designed to explore the effects of biophilia on user preferences. An expert group (N=120) assessed the associations between the words and product sets. Also a user group (N=1.206) rated how much they preferred these products. The data obtained from the experts and the users were analyzed to examine how the biophilic dimensions predicted the user preferences by regression analyses conducted on SPSS 27. The results revealed that the functional dimension has a significant effect on user preferences in both biophilic and non-biophilic/ biophobic cases while the psychological dimension has a significantly negative effect on user preferences just in non-biophilic/biophobic cases.Article Bitonic Cebirlerin Direkt Çarpımları(Adiyaman University, 2022) Şule Ayar ÖZBAL; Özbal, Şule Ayar; Ayar Özbal, ŞuleBu çalışmanın amacı bitonic cebirlerin direkt çarpımları olup bitonic cebirlerin direkt çarpımlarının ilgili özelliklerini çalışmaktır. The boundedness of the state variables for the considered model are demonstrated the parameter values providing the existence of the multiple equilibria and thus the bistable behavior are determined and a local stability analysis of the equilibria is performed. The parameter region yielding the existence of multiple equilibria is determined in an algebraic way based on discriminants. The model given in the state equation form is defined by the ordinary differential equations with the rational right-hand sides constituted within Hill and Michaelis Menten approaches based on enzyme kinetics. The presented method can also be used in the parametric studies of other gene regulatory and metabolic networks given by state equations with rational right hand sides.Article Economic and Technical Performance Assessment of a Thermal Energy Storage System for Ancillary Services(Sakarya University, 2022) emin selahattin umdu; LEVENT BILIR; Bılır, Levent; Umdu, Emin SelahattinIncreasing renewables in energy mix results in lower emissions but also increased fluctuations in the electricity grid. Current thermal energy conversion-based systems will stay as main electricity generation in the grid and they will support base loads of the system. Whether these systems are fossil or geothermal sourced they need adaptive technologies to harmonize with the changing network. This study aims to investigate feasibility and performance to satisfy response demands for a proposed thermal energy storage system connected to feed stream of thermal power generation to support ancillary services in a case study in Turkey. Tin is selected as the phase change material for its good inductive properties. It is demonstrated numerically that the evaluated heat storage tank filled with tin provides adequate time for thermal discharging within time limits to benefit from hourly ancillary power market. Using hourly pricing data for entire 2020 it is found that proposed system shows better economic performance than investment requirement of ROI over 11% as stated in various literature for renewable energy systems. Analysis of system economic performance shows a ROI of 16% and NPV is 17.8% higher than required investment.Article Evaluation of Wind Power Plants from the Aspect of Earthquake Design(Turkish Chamber Civil Engineers, 2025) tolga cimilli; Murat Eröz; Cuneyt Tuzun; Mustafa Erdik; Eroz, Murat; Erdik, Mustafa; Cimilli, Tolga; Tuzun, CuneytIn recent years Türkiye has steadily invested in renewable energy including wind turbines Conseqently their share in the total generation of energy in the country has been increasing every year. Considering the cost of wind power plants together with the targeted amount of energy generation earthquake planning for these systems becomes crucial. Earthquakes are one of the principal risks of wind energy investments especially when considering the earthquake hazard level in a large portion of the country. Under the present circumstances the companies producing wind turbines conduct the analysis and planning they deem necessary and forward these to the investors in our country. The extent to which manufacturers consider earthquake parameters and analysis methods in the design of wind turbines for earthquake resistance is not well-defined. The lack of clarity makes it difficult for investors to accurately evaluate the suitability of wind turbine tower and foundation designs for the specific conditions of the country. This study evaluates earthquake design methods by investigating the regulations used in the design of wind turbines around the world. The magnitude of ground motion considered in the earthquake design the method of analysis used the load combinations on which the designs are based and the criteria for the designs have been inspected. Moreover the design documents for a wind turbine that is being constructed have been examined in detail with the earthquake design stage being especially scrutinized. Assessments and recommendations have been made regarding the design specifications analysis methods and criteria used in the analysis and design of the wind turbines currently being built in our country. Subsequently obtained recommendations have been taken into consideration to propose an earthquake design procedure for the earthquake design of wind turbines. Article Citation - Scopus: 45Long term energy consumption forecasting using genetic programming(Association for Scientific Research, 2008) Ahmet S. YILMAZ; Ahmet Alkan; KORHAN KARABULUT; Alkan, Ahmet; Yilmaz, Ahmet S.; Karabulut, KorhanManaging electrical energy supply is a complex task. The most important part of electric utility resource planning is forecasting of the future load demand in the regional or national service area. This is usually achieved by constructing models on relative information such as climate and previous load demand data. In this paper a genetic programming approach is proposed to forecast long term electrical power consumption in the area covered by a utility situated in the southeast of Turkey. The empirical results demonstrate successful load forecast with a low error rate.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 5Mathematical models for the periodic vehicle routing problem with timewindows and time spread constraints(Ramazan Yaman, 2021) Damla Kizilay; Hande Öztop; Zeynel Abidin ÇİL; Kizilay, Damla; Öztop, Hande; Çil, Zeynel AbidinThe periodic vehicle routing problem (PVRP) is an extension of the well-knownvehicle routing problem. In this paper the PVRP with time windows and timespread constraints (PVRP-TWTS) is addressed which arises in the high-valueshipment transportation area. In the PVRP-TWTS period-specific demands of thecustomers must be delivered by a fleet of heterogeneous capacitated vehicles overthe several planning periods. Additionally the arrival times to a customer shouldbe irregular within its time window over the planning periods and the waiting timeis not allowed for the vehicles due to the security concerns. This study proposes novel mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) and constraint programming(CP) models for the PVRP-TWTS. Furthermore we develop several validinequalities to strengthen the proposed MILP and CP models as well as a lowerbound. Even though CP has successful applications for various optimizationproblems it is still not as well-known as MILP in the operations research field. This study aims to utilize the effectiveness of CP in solving the PVRP-TWTS. This study presents a CP model for PVRP-TWTS for the first time in the literature to the best of our knowledge. Having a comparison of the CP and MILP models can help in providing a baseline for the problem. We evaluate the performance ofthe proposed MILP and CP models by modifying the well-known benchmark setfrom the literature. The extensive computational results show that the CP modelperforms much better than the MILP model in terms of the solution quality. 4Article On generalized derivations of incline algebras(Hacettepe Univ, FAC Sci, 2014) ŞULE AYAR ÖZBAL; Alev FİRAT; Ozbal, Sule Ayar; Firat, AlevIn this paper as a generalization of derivation of an incline algebra thenotion of generalized derivation in an incline algebra is introduced andsome of its properties are investigated in an incline and integral inclinealgebra.Article Piranesi’s challenge: Rethinking the origins of European architecture(Istanbul Teknik Universitesi, Faculty of Architecture, 2024) Fatma İpek EK; Ek, Fatma İpek; Fatma İpek, E.K.Italian architect archaeologist and scholar Giovanni Battista Piranesi was a prolific Enlightenment figure who produced an elaborate series of drawings and etchings to support his following argument on the origins of European architecture: Roman architecture derived not from the Greek but from the Etruscan which according to him derived from Egypt. Based on his meticulous archaeological examinations in excavations he developed a history of architecture that was not based on the East-West division and the separation of the continents. However Johann Joachim Winckelmann’s approach rooting the origin of Roman architecture in the Greek came to dominate the standard history of architecture and Piranesi was misinterpreted both in his day and posthumously. The posthumous codification of architectural history excluded Piranesi from the standardized progress of architectural history in the West and resulted in his identification by idiosyncrasy. Therefore this work is an attempt to restore his argument to architectural history.Article Citation - WoS: 24Citation - Scopus: 28Rough approximations based on different topologies via ideals(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2022) Esra Dalan Yıldırım; Aysegul Caksu Guler; Oya Ozbakir; Yildirim, Esra Dalan; Guler, Aysegul Caksu; Ozbakir, Oya BedreIn this paper we generalize the notations of rough sets based on the topological space. Firstly we produce\rvarious topologies by using the concept of ideal $C_j$ -neighbourhoods and $P_j$ -neighbourhoods. When we compare these topologies with previous topologies we see that these topologies are more general. Then we introduce new methods\rto find the approximations by using these generated topologies. When we compare these methods with the previous\rmethods we see that these methods are more accurate.Article Rubber-Modified Self-Compacting Mortar: Evaluating Setting Time and Strength Development(Yildiz Technical University, 2025) Süleyman İpek; Navvar Makansi; Erhan Güneyisi; İpek, Süleyman; Makansi, Navvar; Güneyisi, ErhanThe influence of using crumb rubber (CR) obtained from the second scraping of used tires as fine aggregate in manufacturing self-compacting mortar (SCM) was investigated experimentally in this study. To explore this natural fine aggregate in SCM mixes was partially replaced with CR at levels ranging from 5% to 25% by total fine aggregate volume. Two mix series one with a total binder of 500 kg/m3 and the other with a 540 kg/m3 binder were designed at water-to-binder ratios of 0.40 and 0.33. Ordinary Portland cement (80% by weight) and fly ash (20% by weight) were used to manufacture mortars. Twelve SCM mixes were cast and tested to evaluate their fresh-state properties including setting times flow diameter and flow time. Moreover the compressive strengths at 3 7 28 56 and 90 days were determined for each mix to investigate their strength development. The test results indicated that the incorporation of CR adversely affected the fresh properties of the SCM mixes and an increase in the CR replacement level systematically diminished their strength characteristics. Nevertheless it was observed that it could be used in a controlled manner to achieve the desired properties.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 5Sediment Incipient Motion in Sewer with a Bed Deposit(Turkish Chamber Civil Engineers, 2022) Mir Jafar Sadegh Safari; Wan Hanna Melini Wan Mohtar; Charles Bong Hin Joo; Aminuddin AB.
