0-6 yaş resimli çocuk hikaye kitaplarında toplumsal cinsiyet inşası

Abstract

The subject of this thesis is to analyze how gender is represented in preschool storybooks. Three preschool story series are chosen from mainstream popular publications as a representative sample in order to examine the representation of femininity, masculinity, motherhood and fatherhood. The narrative structure and visual representation of these texts are examined in context of how they represent the gendered division of labor, gender of emotions and gendered space with the employment of discourse analysis as the research method. As a result, in the story books examined, femininity is represented in the passive maternal role, without agency, occupied with domestic activities and spatially in the home. Male gaze operates and shapes the visual representation of the female body in these texts. Masculinity is represented as an active subject with agency, spatially in the public space occupied with economic activity. In the representations of girl and boy children, the basic discourse of texts consists of the boy representation as the active subject and the girl representation as the passive object

Bu tezin konusu, 0-6 yaş resimli çocuk kitaplarında toplumsal cinsiyetin nasıl temsil edildiğini analiz etmektir. Bu amaçla popüler hikâye kitapları içinden örneklem olarak seçilen üç seride kadınlık, erkeklik, annelik, babalık temsillerinin yanı sıra kız çocuk ve erkek çocuk temsilleri incelenmiştir. Okul öncesi hikâye kitaplarında cinsiyete dayalı iş bölümü, duyguların cinsiyeti, mekânın toplumsal cinsiyeti bağlamlarında, hikâyelerin kurgusu, anlatı yapısı ve görselliği, söylem analizi yöntemi kullanılarak, incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak incelenen hikâye kitaplarında kadınlık pasif, edilgen, annelik rolü içinde, temizlik faaliyetleriyle ve mekânsal olarak ev içinde temsil edilmektedir. Kadın bedeninin görsel tasvirlerinde eril bakış açısının işleyişi egemendir. Erkeklik etken, eylemlilik içinde, fiiliyata sahip, güçlü ve ekonomik faaliyet içinde olarak temsil edilmektedir. Kız çocuk ve erkek çocuk temsillerinde de pasif, nesne olarak kız çocuk ile aktif, özne olarak erkek çocuk temsilleri incelenen metinlerin temel söylemini oluşturmaktadır.
