Educational tourism: Analysis of international students in The United States / Eğitim turizmi: Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'ndeki uluslararası öğrencilerin analizi

Abstract

Amerika Birleşik Devletleri, yurtdışında okumanın zorluklarına rağmen çok sayıda uluslararası öğrenciyi kendine çeken bir ülkedir. Uluslararası öğrencilerin ekonomik ve sosyal durumlarını iyileştireceği beklentisi nedeniyle yükseköğretime olan talep artmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Arkansas, Jonesboro'da bulunan Arkansas Eyalet Üniversitesi'nde (ASU) öğrenim gören 16 uluslararası öğrenci ile yüz yüze görüşme yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, üniversiteye giden nüfusun düşük olduğu bir şehirde uluslararası öğrencilerin seyahat deneyimlerini incelemek ve uluslararası öğrencilerin karşılaştıkları sorunları belirlemektir. Sonuçlar, uluslararası öğrencilerin Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde okurken karşılaştıkları başlıca zorluklardan bazılarının yetersiz toplu taşıma, dil engeli, iklim uyumu, yiyecek ve aidiyet duygusunu içerdiğini göstermektedir. Çalışma ayrıca, yetersiz bursların ve kampüste az sayıda işin zorluklar arasında olduğunu buldu. Çalışmanın sonuçları, üniversite yöneticileri, şehir planlamacıları, turizm uzmanları, ulaşım uzmanları, yeni ve geri dönen öğrenciler ve uluslararası öğrencilerin seyahat ederken karşılaştıkları zorlukları daha iyi anlamak isteyen herkes için geçerli olabilir. The United States is a country that attracts a large number of international students, notwithstanding the challenges of studying abroad. The demand for higher education is increasing due to the expectations that it will improve the economic and social status of international students. In this study, a face-face interview was conducted with 16 international students studying at Arkansas State University (ASU) in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The purpose of this study was to examine the travel experiences of international students in a city with a low university-going population and to identify issues international students encounter. The results show that some of the major challenges international students encounter studying in the United States includes inadequate public transport, language barrier, climate adaptation, food, and sense of belonging. The study also found that inadequate scholarships and few on-campus jobs were among the challenges. The study's conclusions may be relevant to university administrators, city planners, tourism experts, transportation experts, new and returning students, and anyone else who wants to better understand the difficulties international students face when traveling.
