Altın Portakal Film Festivali: Ödüllü filmlerde sinematografik özellikler ve toplumsal cinsiyet temsillerinin değişimi

Abstract

Cinema is one of the most important and influential mass media that goes back to the 19th century and maintains its popularity today. Previously seen as an entertainment medium, the cinema soon became a commercial field. Cinema is also treated as a source in the social sciences with the idea that it reflects the society in which it was created. Through cinema films, it is possible to see the traces of a society and how individuals and their relationships are presented. Similarly, the examination of the films contesting in cinema festivals makes it possible to follow the social-historical changes in this context. In this thesis, the changes in the technical dimensions of the basic cinematographic features and the representation of the male and female characters in the films with the Best Film award in Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival were examined. For this purpose, the technical and basic artistic features of 52 films which received the Best Film award between 1964 and 2016 were included in the scope of the study. Thus, the general changes in the Turkish cinema industry through the basic cinematographic features of the festival films were examined. In addition, the representation of male and female lead characters in award-winnig films in terms of gender and the transformations in the Turkish social structure in this period were examined. Visual content analysis method was used in the study. The analysis of the films shows that the award-winning films follow the changes in the Turkish cinema industry from technical aspects such as color and duration. While literature adaptation films were seen in the early years of the festival, original scenarios became common in the following years. From the 1980s, while women issues have become more visible, women have also gained a place among the directors of award-winning films. In addition, a significant number of films have representations of male and female stereotypes identified in the literature and in this context, it can be said that gender codes have been generally reproduced in the festival films.Sinema, temelleri 19. yüzyıla dayanan ve popülerliğini günümüzde de koruyan, en önemli ve etkili kitle iletişim araçlarından biridir. Önceleri bir eğlence aracı olarak görülen sinema, çok geçmeden bir ticari alan haline gelmiştir. Sinema, ayrıca içerisinde bulunduğu toplumu yansıttığı düşüncesiyle sosyal bilimlerde bir kaynak görevini de üstlenmeye başlamıştır. Sinema filmleri üzerinden bir topluma ait izleri ve o toplumu oluşturan bireylerin ve ilişkilerinin nasıl sunulduklarını görebilmek mümkündür. Benzer şekilde, sinema festivallerine katılan filmlerin incelenmesi de toplumsal-tarihsel değişimi bu bağlamda izlemeyi olanaklı kılmaktadır. Bu tez çalışmasında, Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festivalinde En İyi Film ödülünü almış olan filmlerin temel sinematografik özelliklerinin teknik boyutlardaki değişimi ile kadın ve erkek karakterlerin temsili incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla, 1964-2016 yılları arasında, En İyi Film ödülünü almış 52 filmin teknik ve temel sanatsal özellikleri inceleme kapsamına alınmıştır. Böylelikle, festival filmlerindeki temel sinematografik özellikler dolayımıyla Türk sinema endüstrisindeki genel değişim incelenmiştir. Ayrıca, en iyi film ödülünü almış filmlerdeki erkek ve kadın başrol karakterlerinin toplumsal cinsiyet açısından temsili de incelenerek bu dönemdeki Türk toplumsal yapısındaki dönüşüm izlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada görsel içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Filmlerin analizi, ödüllü filmlerin renk, süre gibi teknik açılardan önemli ölçüde Türk sinema endüstrisindeki değişimi izlediğini göstermektedir. Festivalin ilk yıllarında edebiyat uyarlaması filmler görülürken son yıllarda özgün senaryolar yaygınlaşmıştır. 1980'lerden itibaren bir yandan kadın konuları ön plana çıkarken diğer yandan da kadın yönetmenler ödüllü filmlerin yönetmenleri arasına girebilmişlerdir. Ayrıca, filmlerin önemli bir kısmında, literatürde tartışılan kadın ve erkek klişe temsilleri söz konusudur ve bu bağlamda, festival filmlerinde toplumsal cinsiyet kodlarının genel olarak yeniden üretildiği söylenilebilir.
