Abstract
Gelişen teknoloji ile birlikte dijital oyun sektörüne mobil oyun endüstrisi de eklenmiştir. Bu gelişmeler ile birlikte mobil oyunların grafik kalitesi giderek daha fazla gerçekçi bir görselliği yakalamıştır. Görsel gerçekçiliğin mobil oyunlarda artması ile, oyuncu ve telefon etkileşiminde görsel iletişim gerçekçi bir düzeye ulaşmıştır. Gerçekçi grafiklerin mobil oyunlarda üretilebilir olması, mobil oyunlardaki karakter tasarımlarını görsel açıdan büyük bir özgürlüğe kavuşturmuştur. 2000'li yıllardan itibaren artan görsel kalitesi ile oyunlar, karakter tasarımlarını gerçek yaşama bağlaştırarak, oyuncuyu mobil oyunlara bağımlı hale getirmiştir. Mobil sektörün geliştiriciler açısından yüksek gelir sağlayan ve kullanıcı sayısı artışı bakımından hızla gelişen; Oyuncular açısından değerlendirildiğinde ise, eğlenerek deneyimledikleri bir alandır. Mobil oyunlar, platform olarak cep telefonları ve tabletler gibi kullanıcıların sürekli olarak yanlarında taşıdıkları cihazları hedef alan oyunlardır. Çalıştıkları cihazların model ve marka farklılıklarına bakıldığında, oldukça geniş bir ürün yelpazesinde çalıştıkları gözlemlenmektedir. Geniş ürün yelpazeleri sayesinde, mobil oyunlar her yaş aralığı ve cinsiyetten kullanıcıya hitap etmektedirler. Mobil oyun endüstrisindeki gelişmeler ile birlikte, karakter tasarımcıları yeni çalışma alanlarına sahip olmuşlardır. Bu yaratıcı endüstrisinin sunduğu geniş imkanlar karakter tasarımı alanında yeni yaklaşımlar ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bu yeni yaklaşımlar karakter tasarımcılarının özgün üslupları sayesinde oluşmuştur. Görsel üsluplardaki bu farklılıklar sayesinde oyun çalışmaları kendilerine has eşsiz stilleri ile birbirlerinden ayırt edilebilir hale gelmişlerdir. Bu özgün görsel üsluplar o derece belirleyicidir ki bazı oyunlar oyuncuların kendi karakterlerini tasarlaması için imkanlar sağlamasına rağmen, uygulanan ortak üsluptan dolayı karakter tasarımcılarının tasarladıkları karakterlerin görünüşleri oyunun genelinde uyumsuz bir durum oluşturmamaktadır. Son yıllarda dünyanın en büyük endüstrilerinden biri olan mobil oyun endüstrisi, kullanıcılara birçok farklı deneyimi yaşatabilmektedir. Bu endüstride özellikle konu ve oynanış bakımından ortak özellikler içeren belirli oyun grupları bulunmaktadır. Birbirinden neredeyse sadece görsel üslupları ile ayrışan aynı tür oyunların içinden birinin oyuncular tarafından seçilmesinde görsel tasarımları ve karakter tasarımları belirleyici etkin olmuştur. Oyuncuların seçtikleri karakter ile oyun içinde kendilerini özdeşleştirmeleri mobil oyunlarda karakter tasarımı konusunun önemini arttırmaktadır. Mobil oyunlarda karakter tasarımları aracılığı ile oyuncunun görsel kimliğinin oluşturulması sırasında kullanılan yöntemler, farklı stiller, yapım süreci ve karşılaşılan sorunlar bu tezin özünü oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmamızın içeriğinde mobil oyunları ve mobil oyun karakter tasarımlarının geçmişten günümüze kadar çeşitli teknolojilerde yapılmış örneklerini inceleyerek, yapım süreçlerini görmek ve mobil oyun tasarımında karakter tasarımın rolünü araştırmak amaçlanmaktadır. Along with the developing technology, the mobile gaming industry has been added to the digital game sector. With these developments, the graphics quality of mobile games has caught more realistic visuality. Visual communication in player and phone interaction has reached a realistic level by means of growing visual realism in mobile games. The fact that realistic graphics can be produced in mobile games has brought a great visual freedom to the character designs in mobile games. With increasing visual quality since the year 2000, games have made game designers dependent on mobile games by linking their character designs to real life. Since 2000s, games have associated their character designs with real life thanks to their increasing visual qualities and made the players addicted to mobile games. The mobile sector is a field that provides high revenue for developers and grows rapidly in terms of the number of users; and if it is evaluated from the point of view of the players, it is a field that they experience by entertaining. Mobile games aim at the devices such as mobile phones and tablets that the users carry with constantly. If the model and brand differences of the devices that the games can be played are examined, it is observed that they can be run in a wide range of products. Mobile games appeal to all age groups and genders, thanks to wide range of products. Character designers have found new working areas with the developments in the mobile gaming industry. The wide range of opportunities offered by this creative industry reveals new approaches to character design. These new approaches are appeared thanks to the unique styles of character designers. Game designs have become distinguishable from each other with their unique styles by means of these differences in visual styles. These unique visual styles are so determinative that although some games allow players to design their own characters, the appearance of the characters designed by the character designers does not create an absurd situation in the game due to the applied common style. In recent years, the mobile gaming industry which is one of the world's largest industries has made users have many different experiences. The certain groups which involve common features are included in this industry in terms of subject and playing. Visual designs and character designs have been decisive factor in choosing one of the same types of games that differ from each other almost exclusively in visual styles. The characters that the players choose in the game and the identification themselves with these characters increase the significance of character design in mobile games. The methods used during the creation of visual identity of the player through character designs in mobile games, different styles, creating process and the problems encountered constitute the core of this thesis. In the content of our study, it is aimed to see creating processes and to investigate the role of character design in mobile game design through researching the samples of mobile games and mobile game character designs made in various technologies from past to present.
