Japon ağaç baskılarında erotizm ve cinsellik; Shunga

Abstract

Yaklaşık iki yüz elli yıl boyunca dünya ile bağlarını koparmış olan Japonya, on dokuzuncu yüzyılın ikinci yarısında kapılarını açtığında, Avrupa sanatı bu kültürden hayli etkilenir. Batı kültürü de Japon sanatına etki eder; Japon baskılarının erotik bir türü olan Shunga'nın Japon toplumundaki popülerliği ve gördüğü saygı, 'medeni' Batı kültürünün ahlak anlayışınca kabul edilebilir bulunmaz. Cinsel eylemin açıkça tasvir edildiği Shunga'lar batı tarzı ahlak anlayışına göre pornografik ve aşağılık bulunmuş olsa da, yüksek estetik değerleri, çok katmalı sembolik alt yapıları incelendiğinde sanatsal ifadenin başarılı örnekleri olduğu yakın dönemde kabul görmeye başlamıştır. Cinsellik, başlangıcından beri sanatın önemli bir unsurudur ve dini ve/veya siyasi otorite tarafından baskılanmasına sıklıkla tanıklık edilse de toplumdaki ve sanattaki önemini korumaktadır. Shunga'yı konu alan bu çalışma, Edo Dönemi Japon ağaç baskı resimleri (Ukiyo-e) içinde erotizm ve cinsellik öğelerini araştırmak, toplumdaki ve sanattaki yerini ortaya koymak istemektedir. Toplumun cinsellik, sanat ve erotizmle olan etkileşimini, Shunga üzerinden ortaya koymak ve tartışmak amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışma, Japonya'da baskı sanatının tarihine değinerek Shunga'nın içeriğini, özelliklerini, sosyal konumunu araştırır ve konu aldığı başlıca temaların üzerinde durur. The European art circles couldn't help but get highly influenced by the Japanese art when the country finally opened its doors to the rest of the world after 250-year isolation. Japanese art too was influenced by the Western culture; however, Shunga, the erotic woodblock prints which had enjoyed a remarkable popularity and respect in the Japanese society, was obscene from the perspective of the very 'civil' Western culture. Although Shunga works, which depicted the sexual act explicitly, were found pornographic and inferior back then, theyhavestarted recently to be considered successful examples of the artistic expression for their aesthetic value and the multi-layered symbolism of their structure. Sexuality has been an essential element of art from the day of its birth, and maintained its importance both in the society and arts despite the constant oppression by the religious and/or political authority. This study, which focuses on Shunga, aims to study the erotic and sexual elements in the Edo-period woodblock prints (Ukiyo-e) of Japan, as well as their place in the Japanese society and art, while revealing and discussing the society's interaction with sexuality, art and eroticism through Shunga. The study takes on the history of print art in Japan, as well as the content, qualities and social position of Shunga while also looking at the most popular Shunga themes. It also focuses on the historical phases of Shunga's development through the prominent artists of the Edo and Meiji Periods. Keywords: Shunga, Ukiyo-e, Erotism, Sexuality, Printmaking
