A Research of Toru Takemitsu’s Voice

Abstract

Uluslararası ün sahibi olan ilk Japon besteci Toru Takemitsu, 20. yüzyılın ikinci yarısının en önemli bestecilerinden biridir. Klasik çok sesli müzik ile Uzakdoğu kültürü ve felsefesini birleştirerek elde ettiği kendine has tarzını ortaya koyan eserleri günümüzde dünyanın her yerinde seslendirilmektedir. Bestecinin solo flüt için yazdığı Air, Itinerant ve Voice adlı eserleri güncel flüt yarışmalarında, icracılardaki modern müzik yorumu ve tekniklerin kullanım hâkimiyetini değerlendirmek amacıyla değişik kategorilerde en sık yer verilen eserlerdendir. İncelemenin ilk bölümünde, Toru Takemitsu'nun yaşamı ve besteci kimliğini tarihsel perspektifte ele alınmıştır. Bestecinin, müziksever bir aileyle geçen çocukluk yıllarının ardından savaş döneminin kanunları sebebiyle küçük yaşta gitmek zorunda kalıp batı müziğiyle tanıştığı askerlik döneminin getirdiği kendi kültüründen uzaklaşması, hayran olduğu bestecilerle tanıştığı dönemde kendi kültürünün değerini tekrar kavrayışı ve sonraki müzikal aktiviteleri incelenmiştir. İkinci bölümde Takemitsu'nun etkilendiği besteciler olan Claude Debussy, Olivier Messiaen, John Cage ile olan ilişkileri ve müziğini etkileyen diğer bütün estetik ve teknik unsurlar anlatılmıştır. Üçüncü bölüm bestecinin Voice hariç diğer iki solo flüt eseri olan Air ve Itinerant'ın tarihsel ve yapısal olarak genel bir incelemesidir. Son bölümde ise Voice eserinin tarihsel, yapısal ve biçimsel özelliklerinin detaylı bir incelemesi bulunur. Eser içinde kullanılan modern flüt teknikleri belirlenir, kullanım alanları analiz edilir ve tekniklerin uygulama yöntemleri açıklanmıştır. The first Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, internationally renowned, is one of the most important composers of the second half of the 20th century. The works of classical polyphonic music and its unique style, which combines Far East culture and philosophy, are voiced throughout the world today. Composer's solo flute pieces Air, Itinerant and Voice, are the most frequently cited works in different categories to evaluate the dominance of contemporary music interpretation and techniques in contemporary flute contests. In the first part of the review, the life of Toru Takemitsu and the identity of the composer are discussed in a historical perspective. After his childhood years with a music-loving family, composer's had to go to a young age due to the laws of the war period, to get acquainted with the western music brought by the military period and to move away from his own culture. In the time he met with the admired composers, he regained the value of his own culture and examined other musical activities. In the second part, Takemitsu's composers Claude Debussy, Olivier Messiaen, John Cage and all other aesthetic and technical influences affecting the music are explained. The third section is a historical and structural overview of Air and Itinerant, two other solo flute work, with the exception of composer's Voice. In the last part, there is a detailed examination of the historical, structural and formal features of Voice. The extended flute techniques used in the work are determined, the areas of use are analyzed and the application methods of the techniques are explained.
