Harf Devrimi'nden sonra tipografinin gösterdiği değişim

Abstract

The common acceptance the Latin Alphabet after the foundation of the Republic of Turkey and replacing Arabic letters used for centuries, is an extremely important process in the development of graphic design in Turkey. The period starting from the Proclamation of the Republic to the 1970's is the beginning stage during the understanding of this new writing system. The first part of the study presents the advancements and developments in typography from invention of printing in the West. In the second part of the study, the main interest area of typographic language dealing with the innovative products of 1930's and those of current designers in recent typography is given. Due to the strong West dependency of the evolution of typographic language in the area of graphic design in Turkey, the investigation was carried out in the perspective of the West. In 19th century typography many different tendencies were observed simultaneously due to the effect of technology and the resulting social variations. In this thesis, an investigation of the typographic language from the adoption of the new Turkish Alphabet to present was aimed. The study presents the iconic tendency of the current typographic language in the West dependent on the new technologies and the structure of reading, whereas in Turkey, the typographic language in graphic design advances with the increasing number of communication tools and opportunities reached at a level competing with the world, and getting the name of Visual Communication Design due to the interaction with the communication opportunities. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kuruluşunun ardından yapılan Harf Devrimi ile yüzyıllar boyunca ülkede kullanılmış olan Arap harflerinin yerine Latin harflerinin benimsenmesi, ülkede grafik tasarım gelişimi ile ilgili çok önemli bir süreçtir. Cumhuriyet'in ilanını takip eden yıllardan 1970'lere gelinene kadar geçen dönem, bu yeni yazı sisteminin öğrenilmesi sırasında geçirilen acemilik dönemidir. Bu tez çalışmasının birinci bölümünü batıda matbaanın bulunuşundan itibaren tipografinin geçirdiği değişim ve ilerlemeler oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın ikinci aşamasında Türkiye grafik tasarımında tipografik dilin ilgi alanını, 1930 sonrası ürün verenler ve günümüz tipografisinde yer alan tasarımcıların yenilikçi üretimleri oluşturmaktadır. Türkiye grafik tasarımında tipografik dilin gelişimi bütünüyle batıya bağlı olduğundan, inceleme batı ekseninde ele alınmıştır. Teknolojinin ve buna bağlı olarak oluşan toplumsal değişimlerin etkisi ile 19. yüzyıl tipografisinde pek çok farklı eğilim aynı anda görülmektedir. Bu tez çalışmasında ülkemizde Harf Devrimi'nden sonra tipografik dilin günümüze kadar olan sürecinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Faydalanılan kitap, süreli yayın vb. kaynaklar ile hazırlanan bu çalışmanın sonucunda, günümüzde batıda tipografik dilin yeni teknolojiler ve buna bağlı değişen okuma eyleminin yapısına paralel olarak imgeleşme eğilimi gösterdiği; Türkiye'de ise, grafik tasarımda tipografik dilin özellikle artan iletişim olanak ve araçlarının çeşitlenmesiyle doğru orantılı olarak gelişerek dünya ile eş zamanlı bir yapıya ulaştığı ve giderek bu alanın gelişen iletişim olanaklarıyla etkileşimi nedeniyle Görsel İletişim Tasarım adını almaya başladığı gözlemlenmiştir.
