Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Exergy analyses of a tunnel furnace and a tunnel dryer(INDERSCIENCE ENTERPRISES LTD, 2021) Gurhan Tahtali; Hayati Olgun; Mustafa Gunes; Arif Hepbasli; Hepbasli, Arif; Olgun, Hayati; Tahtali, Gurhan; Gunes, MustafaThe main objective of this study is to comprehensively perform exergy analysis of the tunnel furnace and the tunnel dryer which was selected as the control volume and involved in a brick production line. The analysis was based on the real data measured over a one-year period at a working brick factory with a daily production capacity of 392 tons of fired bricks. Energy and exergy efficiencies of the control volume were obtained to be 76.46% and 12.90% for dead state values of 25 degrees C and 1.013 atm respectively.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Experimental investigation on energy and exergy analyses of an industrial biomass power generation plant(Inderscience Publishers, 2025) Anıl Badem; Hayati Olgun; A. Hepbasli; Hepbasli, Arif; Badem, Anil; Olgun, HayatiThis study employs a real-time operational dataset and engineering equation solver simulations to analyse an industrial biomass power plant in Çay Afyonkarahisar Turkey. The boiler exhibited the highest exergy destruction (64%) followed by the turbine (13%) the low-pressure heater (10%) and the condenser (8%). The energy and exergy efficiencies were 27% and 26% (lower heating value) and 15% and 14% (higher heating value) respectively. The components’ exergy destruction rates were affected by fuel blend and ambient conditions while the overall cycle efficiency remained stable. These findings align with previous studies offering insights for enhancing biomass power plant efficiency. © 2025 Elsevier B.V. The real production data of a brick factory in Turkey with a daily production capacity of 392 tons of fired bricks were used in the analysis. The exergoenvironmental factor of the control volume was calculated as 0.87. The specific exergoenvironmental cost of the control volume was determined to be 559.55 €/h 3.39 €cent/ kg fired brick and 1.94 €cent/MJ. The specific exergoeconomic cost and the environmental damage prevention cost were obtained to be 0.41 € cent/MJ and 1.53 € cent/MJ respectively. Because the ratio of exergoenvironmental cost to sales price of 2.41 € cent / kg fired brick was 1.41 (above 1) it was concluded that the brick production in Turkey was not sustainable in terms of exergoenvironmental analysis.
