Article Comparison of Substance Use and Personality Characteristics and Psychiatric Symptoms of Individuals Using Cannabis and Synthetic Cannabinoids with Healthy Controls(AVES, 2022) Hande Çelikay Söyler; Ayşe Ender Altintoprak; Soyler, Hande Celikay; Altintoprak, Ayse EnderIn this study substance use personality traits and psychiatric symptoms of individuals using cannabis and synthetic cannabinoid were examined and compared with healthy controls. A total of 52 participants who applied to Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Mental Health and Diseases Substance Addiction Treatment Center between March 2015 and June 2017 who used cannabis for at least 1 year in the past and 51 participants who used synthetic cannabinoids for at least 1 year in the past constituted the participant group with a history of substance use and 57 Ege University employees/ students without any substance use history constituted the control group participants. The age range was determined as 18–54. Hacettepe Personality Inventory was used to evaluate the personality traits of the par-ticipants and the Symptom Screening Test-90 was used to examine the psychopathological symptom levels. Participants with a history of synthetic cannabinoid use evaluated by Hacettepe Personality Inventory had a significantly lower score on general adjustment personal adjustment social adjustment self-actualization emotional stability neurotic tendencies psychotic symptoms family relations social relations social norms antisocial tendencies sub-dimensions and they scored significantly higher in all Symptom Screening Test 90 sub-dimensions. The study suggests that adding social adaptation and psychoeducational programs to medical and psycho-social improvement studies in the field of addiction will increase success. © 2023 Elsevier B.V. Dünyada en yaygın kötüye kullanılan yasadışı maddedir. 2016 yılında Avrupa’da 150.000’den fazla kişi esrar kullanımı ile ilgili sorunlar için uyuşturucu tedavisine başlamış, yaklaşık 83.000 kişi de hayatlarında ilk kez tedaviye başvurmuştur. Madde kullanıcıları arasında popularitesi giderek artan ve yeni nesil psikoaktif maddeler (designer drugs) olarak da anılan sentetik kannabinoidler (SK) saf halde katı ya da yağ halinde bulunurlar. Kullanıcılar arasında \"sentetik mariuana\" ya da “yalancı ot” olarak da adlandırılabilen SK Avrupa ve ABD’de Spice K2 Genie, Türkiye’de ise “Bonzai Jamaica ve Jamaican Gold” ismiyle bilinmektedir. Madde kullanım bozukluğu olan bireylerin soyutlanma kendini kontrol ve kendini zararlardan sakınma gibi negatif duygusallık özelliklerinin yüksek olduğu bildirilmiştir. Başay ve arkadaşlarının alkol-madde kullanım bozukluğu (AMKB) olan ergenlerin kişilik özelliklerini inceledikleri çalışmalarında MMPI psikopataloji altboyutlarından hipokondri histeri depresyon psikopatik sapma paranoya psikasteni şizofreni ve hipomani alt ölçeklerinde AMKB olan ergenler kontrol grubuna göre yüksek puan alırken, savunucu tutum (K) alt ölçeğinde kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı düzeyde düşük puan almışlardır. Bu çalışma kapsamında esrar ve SK kullanım geçmişi olan bireylerin madde kullanım ve kişilik özellikleri ile psikiyatrik belirtilerinin madde kullanım geçmişi olmayan sağlıklı bireylere göre farklılıkları incelenmiştir.Article Mothers' Perceptions of Substance Addiction: A Research Design for Components of a Public Communication Campaign(TURKISH GREEN CRESCENT SOC, 2020) Umit Atabek; Gulseren Sendur Atabek; Ali Galip Ayvat; Ayvat, Ali Galip; Atabek, Umit; Atabek, Gülseren ŞendurBased on data from mixed designed research the purpose of this study was to develop design elements of a public communication campaign on the fight against substance addiction. A focus group was conducted with mothers from the city of izmir Turkey. Based on the focus group findings a survey was conducted by distributing a questionnaire to 403 mothers in Izmir. Focus group qualitative data revealed that mothers were generally aware of the risks regarding substance addiction, however they do not relate the issue to their own children. Further mothers were shown to be the people closest the children in their families. Survey results revealed that mothers from higher socioeconomic backgrounds were more knowledgeable regarding substance addiction. A cluster analysis showed that mothers with less education and lower income levels had lower perceptions about substance addiction risk for school environments neighborhoods and the city while mothers with more education and higher income levels had higher levels of such perceptions. Considering the results of our study mothers were chosen as the main target for the public communication campaign.
