Article Citation - WoS: 1A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO SUZUKI TALENT EDUCATION(ANADOLU UNIV, 2016) Zehra Sak Brody; Brody, Zehra SakThe Suzuki teaching method was created by Japanese violinist and pedagogue Shinichi Suzuki. The central tenet of his philosophy was that talent is not inborn, it can be gained through proper education. Therefore assuming that a child does not have some physical handicap 'every child can play'. Eventually it became one of the most popular teaching methods in the world. Suzuki started with the insight that if all children learn to speak their native tongues with the utmost fluency they must have the ability to learn to play an instrument fluently. The method is thus referred to as the 'Mother Tongue Method'. He believed that if a child starts at an early age learns with small steps and uses a violin of an appropriate size he or she could play the violin. The difference between the Mother Tongue Method and other traditional methods is that it starts at a very early age and includes the family - especially the mother - in the learning process. The formation of a cooperative triangle of teacher-parent-student is very important. Perhaps the most important factor in the success of this method is that Suzuki believed that children need to be taken seriously and that if they are they have the ability to learn and achieve anything.Article A Method Implementation in the Intermedia Agenda-Setting Theory Research: The Case of Hurriyet Online and Twitter(ANKARA UNIV FAC COMMUNICATION, 2017-05-30) Gizem Melek; Melek, GizemUnderstanding the relationship between the mainstream media and social networks in a correct and healthy way has become increasingly important today. In this problem the main orthogonal cross aisle which is very common to be seen in warehouses to facilitate travel between locations is planned to be designed as discrete manner such as tunnels along picking aisles. Hence the problem of locating these tunnels along picking aisles so as to increase efficiency of order picking operations which is one of the most costly and the most related operations with the order delivery time in warehouses is propounded. Additionally we develop a new dynamic programming based polynomial time algorithm to calculate optimal length of order picking tour in this new design problem. Hence this algorithm provides very quick solutions even for large pick list sizes. The computational performance of this algorithm is compared with Held-Karp branch and bound algorithm which is a well-known algorithm for travelling salesman problem. Last we solve an example problem and explain how the algorithm is implemented to generate optimal tour.Article Citation - WoS: 1A Quantitative Study On The Female And Male Employees' Expectations From Management When Coping With Stress(ESKISEHIR OSMANGAZI UNIV FAC EDUCATION, 2014) Vesile Ayca Yamuc; Duygu Turker; Turker, Duygu; Özmen, Duygu Türker; Yamuç, Vesile AyçaStress which can be constructive in a certain degree becomes a problem that threatens the physiological and psychological health of individuals depending on the increasing competitiveness in the organizations. Although the literature provides a significant knowledge on the antecedents and consequences of organizational stress there is no sufficient information about what employees expect from their management when coping with stress. In order to fill this void this study first reviews the organizational strategies in the literature and then the employees' expectations from their management during this process were analyzed on a sample of 42 whitecollar female and male workers in a manufacturing firm in Izmir Ataturk Organize Sanayi Bolgesi (IAOSB) with following a semi-structured interview methodology. The results of study reveal that employees expect strategies regarding with their job identification reducing the level of conflict implementation of a fair payment policy etc.Review A review of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filter architecture and filter design technologies, Yüzey tümleşik dalga kılavuzu (YTD) filtre mimarisi incelemesi ve filtre tasarım teknolojileri(Gazi Universitesi, 2023-11-30) Kemal Güvenli; Sibel Yeni̇Kaya; Mustafa SeçmenIn this review article transmission line technologies are compared in terms of loss dimension production cost ease of integration and design complexity. Green Vehicle Routing Problem aims to improve routing decisions of companies using Alternative Fuel Vehicles to reduce carbon emissions. The presented problem herein has two objectives that are the minimization of total carbon emissions and the maximization of service level. While total carbon emission is assumed to be proportional to total distance cargo delivery time window violations of customers are considered as an indicator of service level. The problem was modeled as Mixed-Integer Linear Programming and ε-constraint method which is a multi-objective optimization method is developed to solve it. To effectively solve large problem instances a clustering-based heuristic method is proposed. The heuristic method achieved a good performance by finding near Pareto-optimal solutions that are found by the MILP model. Our proposed mathematical model and heuristic method are tested on seven realistically designed hypothetical case studies. According to the results the minimization of carbon emission and maximization of service level are two conflicting objectives. As the service level increases the number of vehicles and carbon emissions also increase. As carbon emission increases and time windows violation decreases more vehicles and alternative fuel stations are used. © 2022 Elsevier B.V. The research materials of this study were Turklerin Sherlock Holmes 'u Amanvermez Avni (1913-1914) Kazikli Voyvoda (1928) and Baytekin (1935-1936) respectively the first examples of the crime fiction horror fiction and graphic novels in the Turkish literary system. These first local examples of popular literature are also labelled adaptation or imitation because of their resemblance to popular Western fiction. Since the contemporary translation theories are based on the idea that every translation is a rewriting and represents a particular ideology I analysed the aforementioned works as translated texts in relation to the social conditions of the period of publication. The study showed that popular literature is a functional tool to construct national identity aiming to spread the tenets of the adopted ideology to every segment of society and that the first examples of Turkish popular literature were produced through translation for this particular purpose. In this study I used the Turkish term telif not as the synonym of original but to describe a writing technique which means creative mediation. Therefore I discussed the findings of the analysis within the framework of telif (creative mediation) which in this case means writing/creating through translation in the Ottoman period and early years of the Turkish Republic. As a result this study uncovered that the aforementioned works as the first examples of Turkish popular literature genres were produced through translation technique called tell (creative mediation).Article Enhancing lighting efficiency in deep-plan classroom: Artificial lighting and daylighting(GAZI UNIV, 2025-03-27) Ecenur Kizilorenli; Yonca Yaman; Ilknur UygunInsufficient light distribution throughout the classroom has a negative impact on students. Therefore it is crucial to implement effective daylighting and artificial lighting strategies in educational buildings. To address this issue a combination of a horizontal daylight tubes and an overhang was proposed for a classroom at the selected university. The aim was to enhance the availability of daylight reduce glare and improvement of the artificial lighting system performance. The goal is to achieve a Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA) of at least 55% and an Annual Sunlight Exposure (ASE) of no more than 10% in the designated analysis area as stipulated by the daylight assessment criteria outlined in LEEDv4 standards. In addition to the improvements in the daylight performance of the classroom an artificial lighting system was proposed to replace the existing system which creates homogeneous and sufficient lighting. Reducing the energy consumption of the proposed system is also among the desired targets while evaluating the proposed systems Rhinoceros and ClimateStudio were used for daylight simulations and DIALux was used for artificial lighting simulations. The results show that proposed solutions were successful as intended. The sDA value for the zone with the lowest initial value was improved from 1.6% to 59.1% while the ASE value for the zone with the highest initial value was improved from 16.1% to 9.7%. Additionally energy consumption was reduced by 72.34%.Article European Identity and the Myth of the Peace Project(ANKARA UNIV EUROPEAN UNION RESEARCH CENTRE, 2019) Defne Gunay; Gunay, DefneThe extent to which European identity is accepted by the Europeans in comparison with national identities and what European identity means are topics that are analyzed in the European integration literature. This study uses Eurobarometer data to analyze how much the European identity is endorsed after the Eurozone crisis and how the European institutions aim to define Europeanness. Through critical discourse analysis of the State of the European Union speeches delivered by the President of the European Commission this study demonstrates that Europe as a peace project myth is central in their attempts to render European identity valuable in the eyes of the Europeans.Article Evaluating Chevron aisle design in unit load warehouses with multiple pickup and deposit points, Çok kapılı birim yük depolarda Chevron koridor tasarımının değerlendirilmesi(Gazi Universitesi Muhendislik-Mimarlik mmfd@gazi.edu.tr, 2018-04-06) Ömer Öztürkoǧlu; Yeliz Kocaman; Şevkinaz GümüşoğluIn this study the effect of aisle design on the expected single-command travel distance from multiple P&D was investigated. We also present two different material flow policies that aims to determine the usage rate of the multiple P&D points located on the front of the warehouse. For the effect of aisle design we choose Chevron which is one of the most recently proposed non-traditional aisle designs by previous studies because it was shown to be very efficient for single-command operations from a single centrally-located P&D point. In order to investigate the performance of Chevron in terms of distance we compare it with an equivalent one-block traditional warehouse layout for three different warehouse shape ratios. Figure 1 shows the percentage improvement of Chevron in single-command tavel distance over an equivalent traditional design for central dense material flow policy. As seen in the figure whereas Chevron proposes more than 10% savings in travel for a single P&D point the saving decreases as the number of P&D points increases. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of multiple P&D points on the performance of Chevron aisle design over a traditional one-block warehouse design in terms of expected travel distance under various warehouse sizes and different material flow policies. Theory and Methods: Single-command travel distance functions from equally-spaced multiple P&D points in both Chevron and the traditional design were developed under the assumptions of randomized storage and continuous storage space. We also used a discrete model of aisles and storage locations for more accurate distance calculations because continuous models do not consider the loss of storage capacity. Using these models we evaluate expected single-command distances in the respective layouts. Results: Our numerical analysis shows that Chevron design mostly performs better than an equivalent traditional aisle design under equal and central dense flow policies for three different warehouse shape ratios. However the proposed savings in travel distance by Chevron over the traditional design decreases as the number of P&D points increases. Additionally as the number of P&D points increases elongated warehouses (3/1) seem to be superior than deeper warehouses. When two proposed flow policies are compared we observed that central dense flow policy results in slightly better expected travel distances than equal flow policy. Conclusion: It was shown that Chevron still provides reduction on single-command distance for multiple P&D points compared to traditional designs. Especially when warehouses are elongated and material flows are dense around the center of the warehouse Chevron seems to perform better than traditional aisle designs. © 2019 Elsevier B.V. While gifts of a university are possibly designed and produced through its collective knowledge of art design and technology this production is a remarkable tool projecting values of the university. In this respect this research is conducted as a design project with the method of practice-based research. In this article not only the process and outcomes of the project is shared but also the following issues are questioned: What is the role of the object in gift giving? If gift giving in our daily life is personal how can corporate gifts reflect its corporational values? How could cultural objects of a university that reflect its institutional culture and values be designed? How could these designed objects become visible? This research is based on the idead that products' design value reinforces corporate belonging and aims to create an exemplary model for the production of university gift objects by turning academic studio works into products contributing to sustainable local production methods through collaboration with contemporary design.Article Global Fault Lines and Turkey's Regional Integration Policies: A Political-Economic Model Suggestion(HALE SIVGIN, 2017-06-10) Serhan Oksay; Emre Iseri; Nihat Celik; Çelik, Nihat; Oksay, Serhan; İşeri, EmreThe main objective of this study is to measure prospects for Turkey's regionalization efforts in its immediate geography with various political economic fault lines. For this purpose it has proposed an interacting two-legged-political (establishment of stable peace) and economic (interdependence)-regionalization/integration model. In the framework of our model it comparatively analyzes Turkey's regionalization moves such as the EU the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) countries. Considering levels of political-economic relations with those groupings it concludes that without presence of solid political ground of regional stable peace none of Turkey's regionalization moves do have any prospects to reach advanced stages of integration/regionalization.Article ILLUSTRATIVE PERSPECTIVE OF THE 151 YEARS OLD ALICE ADVENTURE IN WONDERLAND(ANADOLU UNIV, 2017-06-01) Nilufer Ustundag OzelThe illustrations in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) one of the most recognizable classics of children's literature in the world written by Lewis Carroll (1865) have been an indispensable part of the book since its first publication. In his film Death in Venice (1971) adapted from Thomas Mann's short novel of the same name (1912) he tells the story of the death of an artist and its relation to the closure of an era at the fin de siecle. The film constructs a web of intertextual relations and quotations from cultural history literature and music. Visconti's choice of non-diegetic music for the film is Mahler's third and fifth symphonies. This is no coincidence that Mahler and the main character Gustav von Aschenbach have many things in common. Mahler's music represents the life spiritual state and inner voice of Aschenbach hence playing a leading role in the film. The dichotomies and ambiguities in the film can also be traced in Mahler's music adding to the power and effect of the narration. This study examines intertextuality in Visconti's masterpiece and aims to provide a different perspective on the use of music in film.Article Labor Dynamics in Law: Supply-Demand Analysis in the Long Run(TUBA-TURKISH ACAD SCIENCES, 2019-08-01) Isil Kellevezir; Guzin Ozdagoglu; Askin OzdagogluIn many areas of work labor dynamics fluctuate with the effect of the education policies environmental factors or economic conjunctures. In situations where fluctuations in supply and demand are not balanced either the unemployment rates follow an upward trend or the demands for the product or service are not met. One area where such fluctuations are observed is the field of law. It seems that especially in recent years the number of law faculties and the student quotas of the existing law faculties have increased to meet the demand for professionals such as lawyers judges and prosecutors. In this dynamic context the development of policies for taking necessary measures and keeping supply under control by correctly forecasting the time when the labor market is to be stabilized is critical for the future of the profession. The study reveals the status of the graduates of law and based on the available statistics offers forecasts for the distant future. The findings point out that if the market is not kept under control for the rapidly increasing supply level to meet the intense demand in the current situation there may be a great number of law faculty graduates above the demand level in the future.Article Land Grab Processes in Romania and Bulgaria: A Historical Continuity Perspective(ULUSLARARASI ILISKILER KONSEYI DERNEGI, 2018-03-01) Nazif Mandaci; Mandacı, NazifAlthough they are positioned in the periphery of the Western economic core Romania and Bulgaria are different from the Third World countries that were exploited and colonized by the Western powers in the preceding centuries where currently land grab processes are at work. However it is observed that because of their geographical and political standings those countries are also influenced by the ongoing global land grab processes albeit in different ways. The externalities of processes of enclosure primitive accumulation or accumulation by dispossession as defined in general by the critical literature have continued to inflict particularly small landholders as did in other societies in different parts of the world. However upon their accession to the European Union land grab processes in those countries entered into a new historical phase discerned by incoming new actors such as equity fundsand the unique dynamics such as the transformation of land into a speculative asset and an energy source.Article Makespan and energy based virtual machine scheduling in cloud systems, Bulut sistemlerinde toplam tamamlanma ve enerji tabanli sanal makine çizelgelemesi(Gazi Universitesi, 2024-05-20) Alper Kizil; Korhan Karabulut; Kizil, Alper; Karabulut, KorhanCloud computing is one of the newest computing paradigms that emerged after worldwide development of Internet infrastructure. It is a technology that saves both large companies and small and medium scale companies as well as independent developers from the cost of keeping infrastructure hardware up to date and operational while also providing flexibility on resource use as well providing additional opportunity to minimize data losses. While in the future it is evident that demand for cloud computing will be on the rise. These kinds of datacenters due to their nature consume large amounts of energy and even the savings on smallest scales will enable these gigantic centers to save a significant amount of energy in total. If we have a look at the literature we can see green computing is gaining immense popularity over the years. The Cloud Scheduling problem is a proven problem to be NP-Hard aiming to find the best solution for a limited number of cloud resources which could theoretically be serving an unlimited number of user demands. In this study firstly an experimental workload / power consumption model is proposed for a server computer and then two genetic algorithms optimizing makespan and energy consumption are compared on these metrics at different server loads. As a result it has been seen that these two criteria are closely related to each other and it has been determined that optimizing the energy criterion has a more positive effect between 10% and 13% compared to the time criterion optimization at full or near full server loads. In this way it has been shown that significant energy savings can be achieved by using energy optimization as an objective function at high server loads. © 2024 Elsevier B.V. It also brings about the change of the privacy concept in terms of meaning and role. The personal information that is being shared via social media content is analyzed in a big data pool and is used by various sectors. In this context it is also discussed whether individuals have information about the privacy policies they approve while using social networks. In this study it is aimed to evaluate individuals' perspectives on privacy in social media big data and privacy issues from the perspective of communication privacy management theory. For this aim a qualitative research design and an in-dept interview technique was used in the study. In-dept interviews were conducted between November 2019 and December 2019 with 18 social media users who were selected by purposive sampling which is one of the non-probable sampling methods. The data was evaluated by the Miles & Huberman (1994) model. As a result it was understood that the participants mostly paid attention to the privacy of their private lives on social media and benefited from the privacy settings offered to them. On the other hand it was understood that the participants didn't read the privacy policies published by social media platforms and they approved those policies as they wanted to be members of those platforms. Even if they are worried about sharing their personal information it seems that they continue to sharein this context it can be interpreted as the participants' desire to be on a platfrom and to express themselves through sharing is suppressing their privacy concerns.Review The Rural Dimension of Gentrification: Tourism- Agriculture- and Industry(KARE PUBL, 2025) Ece Buldan; Tonguc Akis; Buldan, Ece; Akis, TongucRural gentrification characterized by land privatization and displacement intensified in the 1990s with state-driven interventions further integrating into the system. Despite historical references gentrification is generalized affecting rural spaces beyond city centers. This particular development is articulated by focusing on the works concentrating on urban and rural bases. In the contemporary discourse rural spaces are portrayed as hybrids between industrial urban and natural rural settings with leisure and tourism increasingly shaping their consumption without excluding the effects of capital flow. In the Global South countries industrialization alongside tourism facilities contributes to rural gentrification. These processes predominantly manifest in the service and production sectors blurring the distinction between urban and rural spaces and presenting challenges for research and conceptualization. Addressing this gap this study aims to contextualize the blurred urban-rural situation through a review of contemporary spatial issues with a theoretical contribution. By examining transformation processes in tourism industry and agriculture it seeks to offer discussions on the production of rural space. Employing a literature review and qualitative research on significant examples this study will explore rural gentrification via new demographic data within the frameworks of urban and rural studies providing insights into its implications and practices. Accordingly the effects of new capital flow through the rural space will be explored.
