Article A CLUB BELONGS TO A CITY- A REGION- AND A COUNTRY: ATHLETIC CLUB DE BILBAO(ISTANBUL UNIV PRESS ISTANBUL UNIV RECTORATE, 2021) Mertcan Akan; Zaloa Zabala Inchaurraga; Akan, Mertcan; Zabala Inchaurraga, Zaloa; M Unver; M TanriverdiEuskal Herria which means Basque country refers not only to a geographical region but also to a society culture and thought. The Civil War that took place in Spain between 1936-1939 and the following Franco period (1939-1975) have played a critical role in shaping the memory of the Basque society and forming the present identity. The city of Bilbao which is the center of the country's largest region Bizkaia (Vizcaya) is also one of the places where the Basque identity and memory are being lived and kept living densely. The post-Franco period and the flood disaster in 1983 triggered a social cultural artistic and architectural transformation process in Bilbao city throughout which the city left its idyllic and industrial identity behind. This experience made Bilbao one of the most specific examples of how a city can be transformed by adhering to its historical origins. The purpose of this article is to emphasize the active role played by the Athletic Club one of the most important clubs in the institutionalization of modem football in Spain and how a sport club is owned by a city and its society. Carrying out a rare policy in contemporary industrial football with the mission of being the representative of the Basque country the club continues its struggle with athletes trained mostly from quarry. In this sense Athletic Club managed to bring the local struggle of its own lands together to a global stage. Thus as a sport club the Athletic Club has been = so effective in the information of identity and city culture that it has become one of the rare examples of this in the world.Article Citation - WoS: 8Citation - Scopus: 9A differential evolution algorithm with a variable neighborhood search for constrained function optimization(Springer Verlag service@springer.de, 2015) M. Fatih Tasgetiren; Ponnuthurai Nagaratnam Suganthan; Sel Ozcan; Damla Kizilay; Tasgetiren, M. Fatih; Suganthan, P.N.; Kizilay, Damla; Ozcan, SelIn this paper a differential evolution algorithm based on a variable neighborhood search algorithm (DE_VNS) is proposed in order to solve the constrained real-parameter optimization problems. The performance of DE algorithm depends on the mutation strategies crossover operators and control parameters. As a result a DE_VNS algorithm that can employ multiple mutation operators in its VNS loops is proposed in order to further enhance the solution quality. We also present an idea of injecting some good dimensional values to the trial individual through the injection procedure. In addition we also present a diversification procedure that is based on the inversion of the target individuals and injection of some good dimensional values from promising areas in the population by tournament selection. The computational results show that the simple DE_VNS algorithm was very competitive to some of the best performing algorithms from the literature. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. As a natural reflection of this we know that unemployment is rising. The street economy is both a shelter for the workforce pushed from other sectors and for the existing workers. However we do not know much about the current situation and problems of this industry all over the world. Of course the investment required to determine with full accuracy the components of the street economy (how many people where they work and what are the characteristics of these people) which have a very dynamic structure are usually based on social needs is very large. However by photographing the street economy on a regional basis today the need to regulate this sector which has more impact on the mental and physical health of both the individual and society than ever before is strongly manifested. In this study a systematic layout proposal was tried to be proposed for this arrangement.Book Part Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 8Advances in Model-Based Testing of Graphical User Interfaces(Academic Press Inc. apjcs@harcourt.com, 2017) Fevzi Belli; Mutlu Beyazit; Christof J. Large systems usually require complex GUIs which are commonly fault prone and thus are to be carefully designed implemented and tested. As a thorough testing is not feasible techniques are favored to test relevant features of the system under test that will be specifically modeled. This chapter summarizes reviews and exemplifies conventional and novel techniques for model-based GUI testing. © 2017 Elsevier B.V. However there has been limited literature for the developing countries. Purpose - The literature on national innovation systems (NIS) mainly consists of case studies or qualitative researches aiming to explain the patterns of innovation while the quantitative analysis are limited in explaining the innovation capability and efficiency of innovation. This study is unique in a sense that it compares the innovation efficiencies of the EECA countries. This chapter aims to measure the efficiency of NIS via data envelopment analysis (DEA) method. Methodology - DEA is used to consider a sample of 18 Eastern European and Central Asian (EECA) countries and Turkey. One of the main issues is to determine the input and output variables because the available data for some of these countries were limited. Therefore research and development expenditure (% of GDP) government expenditure on education total (% of GDP) imports of goods and services (% of GDP) and foreign direct investment net inflows (% of GDP) were determined as input variables. Output variables were as follows, patent applications both residents and non-residents high-technology exports (% of manufactured exports) and scientific and technical journal articles. Findings - Based on the key findings it can be noted that Kazakhstan Turkey Latvia and Uzbekistan are more efficient in innovation performance compared to other EECA countries. Throughout the results of the DEA these countries may develop new policies about their innovation systems to reach out the higher performance.Article Citation - WoS: 1Analysing the Family Business Phenomenon Among Immigrant Entrepreneurs: A Case Study of Izmir Restaurateurs(PALGRAVE MACMILLAN, 2024) Huseyin Ozan Altin; Ige Pirnar; Altin, Huseyin Ozan; Pirnar, Ige; D Hyams-Ssekasi; E DaskalakiArticle Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 6Bleisure trends Combining business and leisure travel(ROUTLEDGE, 2024) Gokce Ozdemir; Duygu Celebi; Ozdemir, Gokce; Celebi, Duygu; AM Morrison; D BuhalisBook Part Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Brand management process for the online education programmes(IGI Global, 2011) Ebru Gokaliler; Ayda Sabuncuoglu Aybar; Gokaliler, Ebru; Aybar, Ayda SabuncuoğluNowadays the concept of 'brand' is getting more important for organizations because of the developments on information communication technologies the increase of the competition and the changes of the consumer behaviors needs and wants. So the organizations strive to have a strong brand to differentiate from their competitors and to position themselves positively in the consumers' minds. Recently the online education programmes which have strong competitors strive to differentiate from their competitors and to create awareness preference and loyalty with the brand images they have in their consumers' minds. They try to empower their positions in the market with the functions of brand by providing benefits for the consumers. Brands are created with strong communication processes and intensive communication activities in long terms. The brand management process consists 5 steps which are: market analysis brand situation analysis targeted positioning testing the new opportunities and evaluation. In order to make a successful online education programme brand all these steps must be carried out and the programme must be positioned positively in the consumers' minds. In order to create a successful brand of online education programme the programme should follow the brand management stages for placing a positive meaning on the consumer mindset. © 2025 Elsevier B.V. The guiding thesis is that social marketing has evolved throughout the decades and has led to strategic corporate social responsibility. There is however a lack of consensus on the definition of corporate social responsibility as the fundamental norm of this strategic state. In this chapter a strategic framework that offers to broaden the concept of green marketing is provided. This chapter also explores the nature of strategic corporate social responsibility with a view towards understanding its components. Then discussion is framed by CSR theories and critical approaches.Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 12Building integrated photobioreactor(WOODHEAD PUBL LTD, 2020) E. S. It evolves over time and significantly varies across contexts. The joint effect of these two dimensions requires analyzing the notion of social responsibility more frequently than most concepts. The current study attempts to contribute to the literature by focusing on the current practices of CSR in Turkey. In addition to the large-scale effect of global industrial trends and technological advancements, Turkey has also experienced a highly complex political, economic, and social transition during the 2000s. Considering the impact of dynamic and competing institutional logics, the study tries to provide a deeper understanding on how CSR perception and practices have evolved in Turkish business context to date. The study reveals that philanthropic component of CSR has been strengthened as a phenomenon in the nexus of family, religion, community, and market logics. Whereas, the ethical and environmental components are not fully integrated into the CSR agenda of Turkish business organizations. CSR has been also polarized during the 2000s in line with the overall political climate of country. Under the politics of government party, which has been in the office since 2002, business organizations are highly cautious on which issues they should address or whom they should work with.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 1Corporate Social Responsibility: A Conceptual Model(SPRINGER-VERLAG BERLIN, 2018) Duygu Turker; Turker, DuyguBook Part Dalyan paradise(Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2010) Sabah Balta; Balta, SabahDalyan is one of Turkey's better kept secrets a world in itself. IoT is used for detection of the location of the sediment deposition within the drainage pipe system to alert for repairing before complete blocking. However from the hydraulic point of view it is reasonable to design the drainage and sewer pipes to prevent the deposition of the sediment based on the physical parameters. To this end instead of detection of blockage location monitoring the flow characteristics is of more importance to keep pipe bottom clean from sediment deposition. Accordingly smart sensors mounted in the drainage and sewer pipes should read the flow velocity and alert once the flow reaches a velocity in which sediment deposition is occurred. In order to determine the sediment deposition velocity this study models sediment transport in drainage systems by means of evolutionary decision tree (EDT) technique. EDT results are compared with conventional decision tree (DT) and evolutionary genetic programming (GP) techniques. A large number of experimental data covering wide ranges of sediment and pipe size were used for the modeling. Evaluation of the developed models in terms of verity of statistical indices showed the outperformance of the proposed EDT model. The EDT DT and GP models were found superior to their traditional corresponding regression models existing in the literature. Results are helpful for determination of the flow characteristics at sediment deposition condition in drainage systems maintained using IoT technology in smart cities. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.
