Article Citation - WoS: 1A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO SUZUKI TALENT EDUCATION(ANADOLU UNIV, 2016) Zehra Sak Brody; Brody, Zehra SakThe Suzuki teaching method was created by Japanese violinist and pedagogue Shinichi Suzuki. The central tenet of his philosophy was that talent is not inborn, it can be gained through proper education. Therefore assuming that a child does not have some physical handicap 'every child can play'. Eventually it became one of the most popular teaching methods in the world. Suzuki started with the insight that if all children learn to speak their native tongues with the utmost fluency they must have the ability to learn to play an instrument fluently. The method is thus referred to as the 'Mother Tongue Method'. He believed that if a child starts at an early age learns with small steps and uses a violin of an appropriate size he or she could play the violin. The difference between the Mother Tongue Method and other traditional methods is that it starts at a very early age and includes the family - especially the mother - in the learning process. The formation of a cooperative triangle of teacher-parent-student is very important. Perhaps the most important factor in the success of this method is that Suzuki believed that children need to be taken seriously and that if they are they have the ability to learn and achieve anything.Article GIFT GIVING CULTURE IN UNIVERSITY AND DESIGNING GIFT OBJECTS THROUGH CORPORATE VALUES(ANADOLU UNIV, 2018) Nazli Gurgan; Mine Ovacik; Gurgan, Nazli; Ovacik, MineCorporate cultural objects are designed to be given as gifts which represent the cultural characteristifs of that particular corporation. While gifts of a university are possibly designed and produced through its collective knowledge of art design and technology this production is a remarkable tool projecting values of the university. In this respect this research is conducted as a design project with the method of practice-based research. In this article not only the process and outcomes of the project is shared but also the following issues are questioned: What is the role of the object in gift giving? If gift giving in our daily life is personal how can corporate gifts reflect its corporational values? How could cultural objects of a university that reflect its institutional culture and values be designed? How could these designed objects become visible? This research is based on the idead that products' design value reinforces corporate belonging and aims to create an exemplary model for the production of university gift objects by turning academic studio works into products contributing to sustainable local production methods through collaboration with contemporary design.Article INTERTEXTUALITY AND THE LEADING ROLE OF MUSIC IN VISCONTI'S FILM DEATH IN VENICE(ANADOLU UNIV, 2017) Asli Giray Akyunak; Giray Akyunak, Asli; Akyunak, Aslı GirayItalian film director Luchino Visconti and his anthropomorphic films took into account the passionate and consuming nature of humans and mostly chose defeated heros as their main characters. In his film Death in Venice (1971) adapted from Thomas Mann's short novel of the same name (1912) he tells the story of the death of an artist and its relation to the closure of an era at the fin de siecle. The film constructs a web of intertextual relations and quotations from cultural history literature and music. Visconti's choice of non-diegetic music for the film is Mahler's third and fifth symphonies. This is no coincidence that Mahler and the main character Gustav von Aschenbach have many things in common. Mahler's music represents the life spiritual state and inner voice of Aschenbach hence playing a leading role in the film. The dichotomies and ambiguities in the film can also be traced in Mahler's music adding to the power and effect of the narration. This study examines intertextuality in Visconti's masterpiece and aims to provide a different perspective on the use of music in film.Article THE USE OF THE SOSTENUTO PEDAL ON THE PIANO(ANADOLU UNIV, 2019) Esra Kalkanoglu Mamac; Mamaç, Esra Kalkanoğlu; Kalkanoglu Mamac, EsraThe use of the piano pedals has an utmost importance when performing.
