Article A new model for minimizing the electric vehicle battery capacity in electric\rtravelling salesman problem with time windows(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2021-09-23) Kazım Erdoğdu; KORHAN KARABULUT; Erdoğdu, Kazım; Karabulut, KorhanThe growing pollution in the environment and the negative shift in the global climate compel authorities\rto take action to protect the environment and human health. Transportation is one of the major contributors to this\renvironmental decay. The harmful gases released to the air by the vehicles using petroleum fuel increase each day. One\rof the solutions is to make a gradual transition to electric vehicles. A major part of manufacturing an electric vehicle\ris to produce an efficient electric motor and battery for it. Reducing the manufacturing and operating costs of these\rcomponents will result in reducing the overall costs of electric vehicles. In this study a new variant of the electric\rtravelling salesman problem with time windows (E-TSPTW) was proposed. The objective function of the problem is to\rminimize the required initial battery capacity of the electric vehicle. For this goal a new energy consumption model\rconsidering the load of the vehicle was proposed with three scenarios. The proposed model was solved with a hybrid\rsimulated annealing algorithm for all these scenarios. The performance of the proposed method was compared to the\rsolutions found by a mixed integer linear programming model. The experimental results on the benchmark instances\rshow that up to a 35% reduction in initial battery capacity hence reduction in its cost is possible.\rArticle Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 10A new warehouse design problem and a proposed polynomial-time optimal order picking algorithm(GAZI UNIV FAC ENGINEERING ARCHITECTURE, 2018-04-06) Omer Ozturkoglu; Deniz Hoser; Hoşer, Deniz; Öztürkoğlu, ÖmerIn this study we propose a new design problem that relates to orientation of cross aisles in warehouses. In this problem the main orthogonal cross aisle which is very common to be seen in warehouses to facilitate travel between locations is planned to be designed as discrete manner such as tunnels along picking aisles. Hence the problem of locating these tunnels along picking aisles so as to increase efficiency of order picking operations which is one of the most costly and the most related operations with the order delivery time in warehouses is propounded. Additionally we develop a new dynamic programming based polynomial time algorithm to calculate optimal length of order picking tour in this new design problem. Hence this algorithm provides very quick solutions even for large pick list sizes. The computational performance of this algorithm is compared with Held-Karp branch and bound algorithm which is a well-known algorithm for travelling salesman problem. Last we solve an example problem and explain how the algorithm is implemented to generate optimal tour.Review A review of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filter architecture and filter design technologies, Yüzey tümleşik dalga kılavuzu (YTD) filtre mimarisi incelemesi ve filtre tasarım teknolojileri(Gazi Universitesi, 2023-11-30) Kemal Güvenli; Sibel Yeni̇Kaya; Mustafa SeçmenIn this review article transmission line technologies are compared in terms of loss dimension production cost ease of integration and design complexity. Gurel; Gurel, Meltem O.; Önal, Begüm Sena; Ozmalatyalilar, Begum Sena Onal; Gürel, Havva Meltem; Önal Özmalatyalilar, Begüm SenaTaksim Municipal Gazino which hosted its visitors inside the Inonu Promenade between 1939 and 1967 was one of the leading examples of gazinos (an entertainment venue) built with the support of the state in the early republican era in Turkey. Designed by the municipality architect Ruknettin Guney within the scope of French city planner Henri Prost's Istanbul Master Plan the edifice was a quintessential example of modern architecture that epitomized the state's Westernization ideology. This article examines the gazino practice as a spatial reflection of social transformation by presenting a historical and spatial reading of the Taksim Municipal Gazino. The study analyzes the gazino structure as a power mechanism that produces secular identities by focusing on the dialectic between the spaces in the building and the experiences of its patrons. The analysis of architectural drawings photographs and literary works associated with the building on the one hand reveals how the architect operating as a cultural leader utilized architectural creation to present the Western lifestyle to society. On the other hand it indicates that Taksim Municipal Gazino served as a platform for individuals to display their modernity. Moreover the study propounds that the building contributed to the modernization process of the newly established nation-state and it has served as a spatial tool that notably strengthened the position of female regulars in the public sphere.Article A Symmetrical-Asymmetrical Fault Characteristics Analysis within Cogeneration Power Plant in Izmir Turkey: An Experimental Assessment(Gazi Universitesi, 2022-06-01) Hacer Sekerci Öztura; Sezai PolatThe analysis of the short circuit should be understood very well in order to make correct designs in the power systems such as the safety of the personnel and the equipment the selection of the safety relays the circuit breaker selection and the selection of the appropriate conductor section. In this study the parameters about the short circuit and the techniques of calculating the faults in system and the necessary theoretical knowledge for the short circuit fault to be understood better have been given. The effect on the distributed generation and the grid which is caused by the possible short circuit faults have been simulated by being modeled in PSS/Sincal and by using the real grid parameters with cogeneration power plant in Izmir Turkey. The real short circuit fault results measured from the power plant and the grid and the results obtained from the software program have been compared and it has been determined that there is not a significant difference between them. Thus it has been emphasized that it is correct to simulate before investing in a power system in for the purpose of restrain the faults during the designing and working before the application. It allows the designer to design new power plant as good as plan expansion of existing power plants with higher degree of precision. Considering the prices of protection equipment which has a large part in system design this way would allow designer to reduce the cost of the protective equipment and remaining stability. © 2023 Elsevier B.V. To address this issue feature selection methods are used. Selecting relevant features and reducing data dimensions is essential for having accurate machine learning models. Stability is an important criterion in feature selection. Stable feature selection algorithms maintain their feature preferences even when small variations exist in the training set. Studies have emphasized the importance of stable feature selection particularly in cases where the number of samples is small and the dimensionality is high. In this study we evaluated the relationship between stability measures as well as feature selection stability and classification accuracy using the Pearson 's Correlation Coefficient (also known as Pearson 's Product -Moment Correlation Coefficient or simply Pearson's r ). We conducted an extensive series of experiments using five filter and two wrapper feature selection methods three classifiers for subset and classification performance evaluation and eight real -world datasets taken from two different data repositories. We measured the stability of feature selection methods using a total of twelve stability metrics. Based on the results of correlation analyses we have found that there is a lack of substantial evidence supporting a linear relationship between feature selection stability and classification accuracy. However a strong positive correlation has been observed among several stability metrics.Article Citation - Scopus: 8Bessel equation and Bessel function on $\\mathbb{T}(q h)$(Tubitak, 2022-01-01) Ahmet Yantir; BURCU SILINDIR YANTIR; Zehra TUNCER; Yantır, Burcu Sılındır; Tuncer, Zehra; Yantir, AhmetThis article is devoted to present nabla $(q h)$ -analogues of Bessel equation and Bessel function. Green Vehicle Routing Problem aims to improve routing decisions of companies using Alternative Fuel Vehicles to reduce carbon emissions. The presented problem herein has two objectives that are the minimization of total carbon emissions and the maximization of service level. While total carbon emission is assumed to be proportional to total distance cargo delivery time window violations of customers are considered as an indicator of service level. The problem was modeled as Mixed-Integer Linear Programming and ε-constraint method which is a multi-objective optimization method is developed to solve it. To effectively solve large problem instances a clustering-based heuristic method is proposed. The heuristic method achieved a good performance by finding near Pareto-optimal solutions that are found by the MILP model. Our proposed mathematical model and heuristic method are tested on seven realistically designed hypothetical case studies. According to the results the minimization of carbon emission and maximization of service level are two conflicting objectives. As the service level increases the number of vehicles and carbon emissions also increase. As carbon emission increases and time windows violation decreases more vehicles and alternative fuel stations are used. © 2022 Elsevier B.V. If M is ⊕-co-coatomically supplemented and U is a fully invariant submodule of M then M/U is ⊕-co-coatomically supplemented. A ring R is left perfect if and only if R(N) is an ⊕-co-coatomically supplemented R-module. A projective module M is co-coatomically semiperfect if and only if M is ⊕-co-coatomically supplemented. A ring is semiperfect if and only if every finitely generated free R-module is co-coatomically semiperfect. © 2020 Elsevier B.V. This dual-band converter is designed to uniformly excite TT&C slot antennas used in satellite communication with symmetric circular TM01 mode. The structure can work as a transceiver due to having one common rectangular waveguide feed. As a Ku-band application a converter giving high purity TM01 mode at circular waveguide at 11.75 GHz/TX and 13.75 GHz/RX center frequencies is designed and manufactured with 3D printing technology. Approximate equivalent circuit models of the designed structure are extracted by using lumped elements from simulated S-parameter results. In addition a measurement technique to detect the normalized power levels of different propagation modes in dual-band mode converter is applied on the manufactured structures to obtain transmission levels of circular TM01 mode and suppression levels of circular TE11 mode. It is revealed from the measurement results that while the designed structure gives more than 17.5 dB return loss and suppression of TE11 mode and less than 0.6 dB insertion loss of TM01 mode within 500 MHz bandwidth at TX band it gives more than 23 dB return loss and suppression of TE11 mode and less than 0.3 dB insertion loss of TM01 mode within 900 MHz bandwidth at RX band. © 2023 Elsevier B.V. To dampen these oscillations wide-area damping controllers (WADCs) have been introduced by utilizing wide-area measurement systems and synchronized phasor measurement units. In this paper we present a systematic approach for designing WADCs using a model predictive control (MPC) technique to damp interarea oscillations in the power system. The MPC controller computes optimal control signals for the excitation system of a remote generator where it will supplement the local power system stabilizers that are used as damping controllers. The performance of the proposed approach has been assessed on the IEEE 16-generator 68-bus test system and it is shown that the interarea oscillations can be effectively and robustly damped under varying operation conditions. © 2018 Elsevier B.V. The boundedness of the state variables for the considered model are demonstrated the parameter values providing the existence of the multiple equilibria and thus the bistable behavior are determined and a local stability analysis of the equilibria is performed. The parameter region yielding the existence of multiple equilibria is determined in an algebraic way based on discriminants. The model given in the state equation form is defined by the ordinary differential equations with the rational right-hand sides constituted within Hill and Michaelis-Menten approaches based on enzyme kinetics. The presented method can also be used in the parametric studies of other gene regulatory and metabolic networks given by state equations with rational right hand sides. © 2016 Elsevier B.V. This paper for the first time compares the efficiency of the decision tree (DT) and classic genetic programming (GP) data mining models developed for electrical energy demand forecasting in Nicosia Northern Cyprus. The models were trained and tested using daily electricity consumptions measured during the period 2011-2016 and were compared in terms of three statistical performance indices including coefficient of determination mean absolute percentage error and concordance coefficient. The prediction results showed that the proposed models can be effectively applied to forecasts of electrical energy demand. The results also indicated that the GP is slightly superior to DT in terms of the performance indices.Article Evaluating Chevron aisle design in unit load warehouses with multiple pickup and deposit points, Çok kapılı birim yük depolarda Chevron koridor tasarımının değerlendirilmesi(Gazi Universitesi Muhendislik-Mimarlik mmfd@gazi.edu.tr, 2018-04-06) Ömer Öztürkoǧlu; Yeliz Kocaman; Şevkinaz GümüşoğluIn this study the effect of aisle design on the expected single-command travel distance from multiple P&D was investigated. We also present two different material flow policies that aims to determine the usage rate of the multiple P&D points located on the front of the warehouse. For the effect of aisle design we choose Chevron which is one of the most recently proposed non-traditional aisle designs by previous studies because it was shown to be very efficient for single-command operations from a single centrally-located P&D point. In order to investigate the performance of Chevron in terms of distance we compare it with an equivalent one-block traditional warehouse layout for three different warehouse shape ratios. Figure 1 shows the percentage improvement of Chevron in single-command tavel distance over an equivalent traditional design for central dense material flow policy. As seen in the figure whereas Chevron proposes more than 10% savings in travel for a single P&D point the saving decreases as the number of P&D points increases. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of multiple P&D points on the performance of Chevron aisle design over a traditional one-block warehouse design in terms of expected travel distance under various warehouse sizes and different material flow policies. Theory and Methods: Single-command travel distance functions from equally-spaced multiple P&D points in both Chevron and the traditional design were developed under the assumptions of randomized storage and continuous storage space. We also used a discrete model of aisles and storage locations for more accurate distance calculations because continuous models do not consider the loss of storage capacity. Using these models we evaluate expected single-command distances in the respective layouts. Results: Our numerical analysis shows that Chevron design mostly performs better than an equivalent traditional aisle design under equal and central dense flow policies for three different warehouse shape ratios. However the proposed savings in travel distance by Chevron over the traditional design decreases as the number of P&D points increases. Additionally as the number of P&D points increases elongated warehouses (3/1) seem to be superior than deeper warehouses. When two proposed flow policies are compared we observed that central dense flow policy results in slightly better expected travel distances than equal flow policy. Conclusion: It was shown that Chevron still provides reduction on single-command distance for multiple P&D points compared to traditional designs. Especially when warehouses are elongated and material flows are dense around the center of the warehouse Chevron seems to perform better than traditional aisle designs. © 2019 Elsevier B.V. However it is observed that because of their geographical and political standings those countries are also influenced by the ongoing global land grab processes albeit in different ways. The externalities of processes of enclosure primitive accumulation or accumulation by dispossession as defined in general by the critical literature have continued to inflict particularly small landholders as did in other societies in different parts of the world. However upon their accession to the European Union land grab processes in those countries entered into a new historical phase discerned by incoming new actors such as equity fundsand the unique dynamics such as the transformation of land into a speculative asset and an energy source.Article Makespan and energy based virtual machine scheduling in cloud systems, Bulut sistemlerinde toplam tamamlanma ve enerji tabanli sanal makine çizelgelemesi(Gazi Universitesi, 2024-05-20) Alper Kizil; Korhan Karabulut; Kizil, Alper; Karabulut, KorhanCloud computing is one of the newest computing paradigms that emerged after worldwide development of Internet infrastructure. It is a technology that saves both large companies and small and medium scale companies as well as independent developers from the cost of keeping infrastructure hardware up to date and operational while also providing flexibility on resource use as well providing additional opportunity to minimize data losses. While in the future it is evident that demand for cloud computing will be on the rise. These kinds of datacenters due to their nature consume large amounts of energy and even the savings on smallest scales will enable these gigantic centers to save a significant amount of energy in total. If we have a look at the literature we can see green computing is gaining immense popularity over the years. The Cloud Scheduling problem is a proven problem to be NP-Hard aiming to find the best solution for a limited number of cloud resources which could theoretically be serving an unlimited number of user demands. In this study firstly an experimental workload / power consumption model is proposed for a server computer and then two genetic algorithms optimizing makespan and energy consumption are compared on these metrics at different server loads. As a result it has been seen that these two criteria are closely related to each other and it has been determined that optimizing the energy criterion has a more positive effect between 10% and 13% compared to the time criterion optimization at full or near full server loads. In this way it has been shown that significant energy savings can be achieved by using energy optimization as an objective function at high server loads. © 2024 Elsevier B.V. One of the constituent elements of this complexity is the progressive relationship with technology. This paper explores the materiality of furniture in terms of its material qualities production technologies craft component and inefficacies. The paper focuses on mid-century modern furniture in Turkey as a unique example in the history of furniture design especially in terms of materiality. In order to understand the material qualities of this historical context oral history provided a vital methodological tool to uncover the philosophy behind production contemporary conditions and the designers’ personal experiences through their own words. This enables the study to add significantly to the limited knowledge about modern furniture and especially materials in Turkey. The analysis is divided into three parts: materials production technologies and difficulties. By investigating the material qualities of a furniture piece the study extends beyond mere forms or styles to cultural productions that narrate the country’s efforts to develop and thrive. In addition it reveals the evolution of both materials and manufacturing techniques. Finally by connecting these stories to specific furniture pieces this study documents furniture not just as an artefact but also as the final product of an assemblage of people materials and techniques. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.
