Multiperiod and stochastic formulations for a closed loop supply chain with incentives
    (PLEIADES PUBLISHING INC, 2014) I. Litvinchev; Y. A. Rios; D. Ozdemir; L. G. Hernandez-Landa; Litvinchev, I.; Ozdemir, D.; Rios, Y. A.; Hernandez-Landa, L. G.
Reverse logistics network design problem we focus on is about locating distribution centers inspection centers and remanufacturing facilities and determining the acquisition price as well as the amount of returned goods to be collected depending on the unit cost savings and competitor's acquisition price. We introduce the multiple periods setting and stochastic demand formulated by scenarios. We develop two mathematical programming models to determine the pricing strategy of the recovered products together with the optimal network that must be designed to be the most profitable closed cycle. Our methodology is based on a Golden Section Search with some flexibility that enables us to fix the used product acquisition price and then solve the model as an integer linear programming. Moreover we establish dependent size fixed costs of opening a distribution an inspection and a remanufacturing centers and show that they have a strong impact on the Golden Section search behavior.

Daily logistics planning with multiple 3PLs: A case study in a chemical company
(Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico Centro de Ciencias Aplicadas y Desarrollo Tecnologico, 2014) Gökberk Ozsakalli; Deniz Özdemir; Sel Ozcan; B. Sarioglu; A. Dincer; Ozsakalli, G.; Dincer, A.; Ozcan, S.; Ozdemir, D.; Sarioglu, B.
The importance of efficient logistics management for chemical industry considered to be one of the important issues in process industries. Motivated from a chemical factory operating in Turkey cost efficient daily logistics planning using multiple third party logistics providers (3PL) with different contracting schemes are analyzed. In order to reduce planning time and maximize the physical vehicle capacity utilization problem of the company is formulated as a mixed integer mathematical model and a two-phase solution approach is proposed. Using the real life daily shipment requirement data the proposed model and the solution methodology is tested. Furthermore impact of various company practices and types of different transportation pricing schemes are analyzed to better design 3PL contracts. The initial results are very promising where optimum solution for large scaled problem can be obtained in seconds and the daily shipment planning can be updated dynamically whenever it is necessary. The analysis indicates that cost savings through holistic planning is robust to contracting schemes and specific clauses are not always needed to guarantee certain service quality. We believe that the efficiency achieved through the integration of such techniques can become highly attractive for further applications in the industry. © 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Multi-location transshipment problem with capacitated production
(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2013) Deniz Ozdemir; Enver Yuecesan; Yale T. Herer; Yücesan, Enver; Herer, Yale T.; Özdemir, Deniz; Yuecesan, Enver
We consider coordination among stocking locations through replenishment strategies that explicitly take into account lateral transshipments i.e. transfer of a product among locations at the same echelon level. Our basic contribution is the incorporation of supply capacity into the traditional transshipment model. Our goal is to analyze the impact on system behavior and on stocking locations' performance of the fact that the supplier may fail to fulfill all the replenishment orders. We therefore formulate the capacitated supply scenario as a network flow problem embedded in a stochastic optimization problem which is solved through a sample average approximation method. We find that depending on the production capacity system behavior can vary drastically. Moreover in a production-inventory system we find evidence that either capacity flexibility (i.e. extra production) or transshipment flexibility (i.e. pooling) is required to maintain a desired level of service. ERP: Impact of Alignment on Perceived Business Performance
