Tavan malzemesi seçiminin kütüphanelerin akustik koşulları üzerine etkisi: Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Kütüphanesi ve Yaşar Üniversitesi Kütüphanesi örneği
(2024) Kişioğlu, Ece; Karcı, Zeynep Sevinç
Libraries, as centers that house a wide range of digital and physical information sources to inform their users, have historically met the informational needs of society. Over time, these spaces have evolved to meet the needs of different locations, institutions, and user profiles, resulting in various types such as public libraries, national libraries, special research libraries, school libraries, and university libraries. University libraries, which are the focus of this study, are spaces used by university users that require silence for concentration. Therefore, elements that would create noise in library spaces should be avoided, and acoustic comfort should be ensured. To achieve acoustic comfort in the space, proper interventions must be made to the walls, ceilings, partitions, materials, and textures that constitute the layout planning and architectural design of the space. Two libraries selected for this study to examine indoor acoustic comfort are Dokuz Eylül University Fine Arts Library and Yaşar University Library, both of which are from the most established universities in Izmir. When examining the interior characteristics of the spaces, it was observed that, while they are similar in terms of square meters and design, the element that differs volumetrically and materially is the ceiling designs and material. Therefore, the ceilings were selected in terms of form and finishing material to comparatively examine the acoustic comfort of the spaces, to compare them in scenarios and to present suggestions. In the study, on-site measurement and analysis methods were used. During the measurements, three points were determined within the selected library space. The study first analyzed the existing conditions for the objective parameters of sound: RT (reverberation time), EDT (early decay time), D50 (definition), and STI (speech transmission index). Parameters that deviated from the optimal value ranges were then evaluated based on the library's surface materials and layout plan. In the final stage, the two library spaces were modeled using the ODEON program to obtain ideal acoustic parameters for each space. The volumetric and material change scenarios of the ceilings of the two spaces were modeled using the ODEON program to obtain ideal acoustic parameters for each space. The volumetric and material change scenarios of the ceilings of the two spaces were simulated and compared with each other, and suggestions were presented for the best possible scenario to achieve ideal results.
