Article Citation - WoS: 14Citation - Scopus: 14Adaptation of local businesses to the new era during the COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war: case of Çeşme(Routledge, 2024) Murat Nazlı; Nazli, MuratTurkey’s economic impact has been severe due to the lack of international tourists and the Covid-19 pandemic. Specifically the tourist destination Çeşme has suffered economic fluctuations due to decreased international visitors the Russia-Ukraine war and insufficient domestic tourists to fill the gap. The study aims to identify deficiencies that help stakeholders manage tourism development amid Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews (n = 34) with local business owners operating for at least 25 years. The study provides insights into the recent tourism development during the pandemic and presents a high level of resilience among local businesses. The business owners perceive the current pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war situation differently psychologically. Most resilient business owners look for business opportunities by adapting their business models for long-term survival despite the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war affecting international tourism. © 2024 Elsevier B.V. The current study propounds a three-dimensional structure of internal corporate governance (ICG) and examines the effects of ICG dimensions on work engagement job satisfaction and affective commitment through the hypotheses. Confirmatory factor analyses are conducted for validating the theoretical constructs on the self-reported data that is from 224 hotel-employees. To examine the effects of ICG on hotel employees five multiple regression models are developed. The results reveal that the effects of ICG on work-related attitudes are significant. Three ICG dimensions have joint effects on the affective commitment of hotel employees. Responsibility and transparency of ICG jointly predict the vigor and dedication. The fairness of ICG predicts the absorption dimension of work engagement. Fairness and responsibility have joint significant effects on the job satisfaction of the hotel employees. The results provide implications for researchers and senior managers.Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 8Gen Z travel intentions and museum visits in the metaverse: case of Egypt- Scotland- and Turkey(ROUTLEDGE JOURNALS TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2025) Murat Nazli; Cagri Bulut; Yasin Ozarslan; Nazli, Murat; Bulut, Cagri; Ozarslan, YasinThis early-stage study explores Gen Z's travel intentions and virtual museum visits in the metaverse by experiencing Egypt Scotland and Turkey. The subjective perception and judgment of Gen Z users are investigated in the immersive environment. Semi-structured interviews and laboratory sessions took place with 20 volunteers in three studies. Study 1 and Study 2 reveal different views of Gen Z concerning their travel intentions as two open-air experiences in the metaverse. Study 3 shows Gen Z perspectives of a virtual museum visit as an indoor experience. Through this study we could form a link between the metaverse and Gen Z travel intentions using two travel applications for Egypt and Scotland and a museum application for Turkey which has rarely been discussed before. The study also guides an experience interaction interface design for VR 360 video and future-related tourism products and services for Gen Z users. The study illuminates the travel and metaverse relationship for future studies for practitioners and researchers.Article Citation - WoS: 16Citation - Scopus: 25Exploring the effects of “excessive tourism growth” on public health and ecosystem(Emerald Group Holdings Ltd., 2020) Ferika Özer Sari; Murat Nazlı; Nazli, Murat; Sari, Ferika OzerPurpose: The purpose of this research is to explore and understand the effects of excessive tourism growth on public health local people and the ecosystem. The secondary purpose of the study is to link excessive tourism growth to social exchange theory in terms of interchanging key resources of tourism destinations. Design/methodology/approach: This is an exploratory study where qualitative research methods are employed. Telephone interview technique is used to obtain data from academicians who work at various universities in Turkey. Content analysis and thematic analysis with an inductive approach are made by use of MAXQDA software program. Findings: Findings reveal that the satisfaction of local people is an important gain in terms of the economy but the destruction of the ecosystem due to the excessive crowd in a sense overtourism garbage and too much waste is striking disadvantage based on the responses. Risk of contagious disease effects on the natural environment and wastes are stated to have huge impacts on the public health and ecosystem. Practical implications: The study identifies some implications in terms of imbalance and unfairness among the locals who face with excessive crowds. Managing the effects of excessive tourism growth on vulnerable destinations and local people controlling the carrying capacity in destinations with anxiety fear depression health problems and low living standards should be taken under consideration. Additionally finding ways to get rid of infectious diseases (such as increasing health checkpoints at borders investigating the carrying capacity of destinations) is important for tourism spots. Originality/value: As a major theoretical contribution this study links excessive tourism growth to social exchange theory and reveals that the degree of exchanging valuable resources in the destination and the level of interaction between locals and tourists are the most critical points for the well-being of the local community and ecosystem. © 2021 Elsevier B.V. Based on the big five personality traits this paper proposes a typology on the environmentalists' predispositions for conscious consumption studies which consists of concern pleasure consciousness beliefs and norms. The method of the empirical study is a self-reported survey with a sample of 256 participants from a developing economy. The results of the factor analyses confirm the five-dimensional theoretical construct of individuals' predispositions towards environmentalism. Furthermore multiple regression analyses for testing the associations of the environmentalist predispositions on recycled product preferences disclose that among five of the dimensions environmentalist consciousness environmentalist beliefs and environmentalist norms have joint effects on preferring a recycled product. This study is one of the preliminary attempts that examines the effects of environmentalist predispositions on a conscious consumption choice specifically on preferring the recycled products as a green purchasing behavior type.
