Food loss in supply chain is a growing problem due to its environmental social and economic impacts. Especially in emerging economies losses mostly occur in the first stages of the supply chain including agricultural production and postharvest storage. As an emerging economy Turkey also suffers from the food losses in the supply chain. In this study focus is on raw milk losses in the supply chain since livestock and diary sectors are one of the most important sectors in Turkey's economy. Aim of this study is firstly to investigate root causes of raw milk losses in the supply chain and to predict potential raw milk losses. Secondly presenting a sustainable solution according to the results of the prediction and finally achieving environmental social and economic benefits for sustainable raw milk supply chain. Grey Method is used to predict potential losses between 2017–2019 and at the end of the study triple bottom line based sustainable collection center model is suggested for policymakers. © 2018 Elsevier B.V. Incorporating Multidimensional Risk Evaluation in Sustainable Maintenance for Operational Performance
(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2025) Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Ada, Erhan; Kazancoglu, Yigit
PurposeSustainability in operations management is a rapidly growing concern for organizations, and it needs to be embraced by all processes to increase productivity and operational performance. Under these operations, maintenance activities have significant environmental, social and economic consequences for organizations; therefore, sustainable maintenance is a significant concept for organizations. Due to the nature of maintenance activities, multiple risks are associated with them. It is crucial to systematically define and evaluate these risks to achieve more sustainable practices and improved operational performance. From this perspective, this study aims to define risks associated with sustainable maintenance, evaluate them to gain a deeper understanding and provide recommendations for enhancing operational performance.Design/methodology/approachFuzzy synthetic evaluation is employed for multidimensional risk evaluation, which systematically analyses these risks using the level of severity (LS), likelihood of occurrence (LO) and detectability (D) as parameters. In total, seven main risks and 35 sub-risks are presented in this study.FindingsThe results showed that risks related to employee attitudes and managerial and organizational issues dominate sustainable maintenance, revealing the importance of the human factor in sustainable maintenance. Furthermore, all risks are ranked based on the study's findings, and implications are presented about these results.Originality/valueAlthough interest in sustainable maintenance is proliferating in the operations management field, and risks in maintenance have been studied by different authors, none of these studies have integrated risk evaluation with sustainable maintenance by providing specified risks that combine the concepts of sustainability risks and maintenance risks. The primary contribution of this study lies in combining these concepts to provide a multidimensional risk evaluation that enhances operational performance. The results of this research are expected to provide valuable insights into sustainable maintenance operations from a risk evaluation perspective, and the suggestions provided in the study will be beneficial for improving operational performance.

Performance analysis of data-driven sustainable supply chain management
(INDERSCIENCE ENTERPRISES LTD, 2024) Yavuz Gazibey; Yesim Deniz Ozkan-Ozen; Yucel Ozturkoglu; Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Gazibey, Yavuz; Ozturkoglu, Yucel
To be sustainable is essential for the long-term welfare of organisations and to be sustainable companies need to focus primarily on complicated supply chain structures. With digitalisation the most critical issue of supply chains in the new industrial age is to be data-driven. Therefore bridging the sustainable supply chain (SSC) to data-driven performance is necessary. The research question of this study is whether data-driven performance criteria can contribute to a SSC. Therefore it is aimed to identify the various enablers and determine the relative importance of these enablers that are critical to the success of data-driven SSC management. To achieve this aim this study proposes a holistic structure consisting of a detailed literature review and best worst method (BWM) implementation. This study's main contribution is integrating sustainability and data-driven dimensions by presenting criteria for the supply chain management.

(Elsevier Ltd, 2025) Melisa Ozbiltekin-Pala; Volkan Yavas; Yeşim Deniz Özkan-Özen; Ozbiltekin-Pala, Melisa; Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Yavas, Volkan
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) which have become increasingly widespread stand out as accessible cost-effective useful and efficient options for many different tasks such as search and rescue monitoring tracking mapping and dispatch in emergency logistics operations. However in this process driving forces and obstacles determine the status of UAVs in disaster management. In this study in order to identify these factors 8 drivers and 8 barriers created as a result of the literature review were analyzed using the Graph Theory Matrix Approach method. According to the findings obtained the most important drivers of UAVs in emergency logistics operations are high-tech solutions followed by air surveillance and mapping. The most important barrier is instability against various weather conditions and regulators. Stakeholders of emergency logistics operations optimally interpret drivers and barriers in the involvement of UAVs and contribute to economic technical or legal corrective actions. © 2025 Elsevier B.V. Digitalization and sustainability are essential in today's globalized business environment. Within the logistics sector aviation plays a critical role in this dynamic environment by enabling rapid safe transportation worldwide. While applying new approaches air logistics processes should incorporate the technologies and applications enabled by digitalization and consider environmental social and economic sustainability impacts. These can be mutually beneficial in that new digital technologies can reduce environmental impacts make a social contribution and increase economic gains. While there is rapidly expanding literature about integrating these concepts for various purposes in different sectors applications in air logistics are particularly promising. Accordingly this study contributes to digital and sustainable air logistics research by identifying current trends revealing gaps in knowledge and proposing future research directions. To do so a literature review and a bibliometric analysis were conducted using VosViewer software. As a result five potential research areas were proposed.

Integrating Lean Six Sigma with life cycle and value stream level of RAMI 4.0
(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2024) Yesim Deniz Ozkan-Ozen; Jose Arturo Garza-Reyes; Yigit Kazancoglu; Ozkan-Ozen, Yesim Deniz; Garza-Reyes, Jose Arturo; Kazancoglu, Yigit
This study integrates the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) DMAIC (design measure analyze improve control) methodology with the Life Cycle and Value Stream Level of RAMI 4.0 by proposing a systematic structure that includes LSS 4.0 tools and techniques for each level. The fuzzy Entropy Weighting method is used to evaluate LSS 4.0 tools and techniques for each level and a sample implementation of the proposed structure is conducted in a high-technology electronics firm. The results indicated that the proposed structure effectively integrates the LSS and DMAIC methodology with the Life Cycle and Value Stream Level of RAMI 4.0. The results suggest that although the DMAIC methodology is applicable for each life cycle stage the most important approaches vary for each life cycle level. Therefore DMAIC implementation for each level should be conducted separately for each life cycle and LSS 4.0 tools and techniques should be chosen according to the specific needs. This article proposes a novel systematic structure that includes LSS 4.0 tools and techniques for each DMAIC stage and that can be used for LSS implementation in RAMI 4.0. The proposed structure will contribute to systemizing the complex structure of Industry 4.0 in the implementation phase of smart factories.
