Bir illüstrasyon alanı olarak tarot kartlarına güncel bir yaklaşım / A contemporary approach to the tarot cards as a field of illustration

Abstract

Antikiteden beri birçok uygarlık gelecek kaygısı ile, özellikle kaderlerini ve varoluş amaçlarını öğrenebilmek amacıyla geleceğe dair bilgiler edinebilmek için kendi kehanet sistemlerini oluşturmuştur. Bu tez kapsamında, ana amaçlarından biri gelecekten haberler almak olan Tarot kartları ele alınarak, kartların kehanet ile olan ilişkisi ve tarihsel gelişimi incelenmiştir. İllüstrasyon, resim ve süsleme sanatlarını, kehanet sistemleri ile buluşturarak sembolik ve semiyolojik olarak yorumlanabilecek figüratif bir dil oluşturan tarot kartlarının işlevsel ve tasarımsal kökenleri ele alınmıştır. Genel bir kapsamda incelenen kehanet sistemleriyle, Tarot kehanet sisteminin ortak olan ve ayrışan özellikleri üzerinde durulmuştur. Tarot kart tasarımlarının, birçok antik uygarlık ve topluluğun, farklı inanç sistemlerine dayalı olarak gelişmiş ezoterik öğretilerinden ve bu uygarlıklara ait kültürel değerlerin ve ögelerin katkılarından, astroloji ve nümeroloji gibi farklı doktrinlerden nasıl etkilediği araştırılmıştır. Yaratılış tarihi spesifik olarak saptanamamış olan tarot konseptinin, hangi uygarlık ve topluluklardan ne kadar etkilendiği, olası çıkış vatanı, tasarımların ve grafik dillerinin nasıl şekillendiği ve kullanım amaçlarının çeşitliliği üzerinde durulmuştur. Tez kapsamında yapılan araştırmalar sonucu toplanılan bilgiler doğrultusunda yeni bir tarot destesi tasarımı yapılmıştır. Yapılan tasarım uygulaması genelinde, kartların kökenleri ve önemli olarak etkilendiği olgular göz önünde bulundurularak, köklerinden kopmamış ancak daha modern olarak nitelendirilebilecek bir tasarım dili ile güncel bir tarot destesi oluşturulması hedeflenmiştir. Since the antiquity, many civilizations have created their own divination systems in order to obtain information about the future and especially in order to learn about their destiny and purpose of existence. Within this thesis, Tarot cards, one of the main purposes of which is to predict the future, are discussed, and the relationship of the cards with divination and its historical development are studied. The functional and design origins of the tarot cards, which form a figurative language that can be interpreted symbolically by bringing together illustration, painting and ornamental arts with divination systems, are discussed. With the divination systems examined in a general context, the common and distinctive features of the Tarot divination system are emphasized. It has been researched how tarot card designs are influenced by the esoteric teachings of many ancient civilizations, based on different belief systems, and the contributions of cultural values and elements of these civilizations, from different doctrines such as astrology and numerology. The tarot concept, which creation date has not been determined specifically, is influenced by which civilizations, how the designs and graphic languages are shaped, and the variety of uses are emphasized. A new tarot deck was designed in the light of the information gathered as a result of the research conducted within this thesis. Throughout the design process, it is aimed to create an up-to-date tarot deck with a design language that is not deracinated, but can be described as more modern, taking into account the origins of the cards and the facts that affect them significantly.
