Abstract
This article explores the question of whether it is possible to achieve such a physical ideal in book design as the one Le Corbusier discovered in his architectural practice with his Modular system which captures the ideal scale and architectural/spatial form. This question is particularly examined in relation to Jan Tschicholds' studies of standardization in book design while also considering the physical transformations the book object has undergone over the centuries. There exists an intrinsic relationship between architecture and book design. This relationship can be evaluated in two poles: one where designers perceive the book as a complete structure in terms of its object and page design and another where architects strive to reconstruct their architectural practices within the space of the book. Consequently the study includes perspectives not only from Le Corbusier but also from contemporary architects and designers regarding their practices and views on the book as an object. Without aiming to reach an absolute conclusion this article discusses the possibilities of attaining an ideal form in the book object within the context of architecture and book design.
