Reshaping the design education for new age learners
(E D P SCIENCES, 2016) Ceren Polat; Eray Bozkurt; Polat, Ceren; Bozkurt, Eray; H Caliskan; I Onder; E Masal; S Besoluk
Various design philosophies such as modernism postmodernism deconstructivism appeared following industrialization. Such developments have required today including several research techniques in the design process. To discover human being on a user basis in general the sciences of design have started to analyse researches and data in different disciplines as psychology sociology and environmental psychology. Embedding evolving technology to this process such data are used to develop new topics in design like intangible design interactive art computational design etc. The process of analysing and improving education methods may also add improvement of research methods to the agenda. Creativity innovation and variations in design sail for infinite choices together with developing research methods changing skilled new generation and developing technologies. The aim of this research is to point out the failures of design education for the new age learners.

INTEGRAL DESIGN STUDIO EXPERIENCE IN ARCHITECTURE UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION
(IATED-INT ASSOC TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION A& DEVELOPMENT, 2016) Ebru Alakavuk; Ceren Polat; Alakavuk, Ebru; Polat, Ceren; LG Chova; AL Martinez; IC Torres
Design Studio is the main course of Architecture. Besides Design Studio courses theoretical courses and practical courses also take place in the curriculum of Architecture program. While Theoretical courses are history of Architecture introduction to Architecture etc. practical courses are, Building construction courses technical courses. Both Technical and construction courses give knowledge about the main principles of Architecture for supporting the Design Studio. In the Design Studio which is the main course of Architecture education students learn approaches to design and also learn the way of thinking in innovative way. Integral Design Studio is a new approach to architecture education. In the integral design studio there is a theoretical course that supports the main theme of the Design Studio where as this theme sometimes can be sustainability sometimes it can be earthquake. In this paper the experience of the writer that is about the integral design studio is explained. In this integral design studio earthquake is the main theme. The problem is how to integrate earthquake theme to the Design Studio. The positive parts and negative parts of the new integral studio approach in this context are presented.

Inspiration point in design: The example of basic design class assignments
    (E D P SCIENCES, 2016) Ceren Polat; Polat, Ceren; H Caliskan; I Onder; E Masal; S Besoluk
Any design works (except the art works) are designed for user(s). User's needs and abilities are the basic information to find the suitable solutions for the designers. Whether the product is an artwork or a design work all of them have unique or well-known inspiration points. Finding an inspiration point improving the idea designing with the concept of the idea are processes that has been started to be taught to the designers in their first year Basic Design Classes at schools as the continuation of the principles and tools of design topics. With this study the subject of Inspiration Point in Design implemented within the scope of the Basic Design I-studio course taught to the first year students of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Yasar University as a class assignment.
