Book Part How does CSR address equality problems towards sustainable development goals? Business cases from various industries(Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd., 2023) Gizem Aras Beger; Bayram Bilge Sağlam; Egemen Ertürk; Beger, Gizem Aras; Sağlam, Bayram Bilge; Ertürk, Egemen[No abstract available]Article Leveraging corporate sustainability through responsible innovation: Capacity building with exploration and exploitation(John Wiley and Sons Inc, 2023) Gizem Aras Beger; Bayram Bilge Sağlam; Duygu TürkerThe growing literature on corporate sustainability suggests its positive implications for organizations and stakeholders. Based on the social identity approach the current study aims to investigate whether responsible innovation can leverage these sustainability advantages of companies to improve organizational commitment and competitiveness. Responsible innovation has been integrated into an original model as a construct that translates corporate sustainability into organizational outcomes to meet stakeholders' needs and to frame and solve the sustainability-related tensions in an ethical way. The study also attempts to examine the mediating impacts of exploration and exploitation orientations on the proposed link between corporate sustainability and responsible innovation. The model was validated by using the partial least squares structural equation modelling method on a sample of 196 middle managers in small businesses in Turkey. The findings reveal that responsible innovation has a significant mediation effect on the proposed links and both exploration and exploitation elicit the innovation capacity in sustainability practices. The study also supports the argument on the positive impact of exploitation on exploration. © 2023 Elsevier B.V. Article How Competing Institutional Logics Affect Corporate Social Responsibility Benefits: the Mediating Role of Paradox Mindset and Multi-Stakeholders(SPRINGER, 2024) Gizem Aras BegerOrganizations differ in their corporate social responsibility (CSR) orientation the effects of which manifest themselves in organizational outcomes. Drawing on the institutional logics perspective the current study explains the underlying dynamics of these differences. The current study aims at revealing how organizations can achieve combined CSR benefits for both society and business by exploring the ways of how social and commercial logic function differently in the context of CSR and shape organizations' CSR together with some mediators. Based on the developed typology by the current study for CSR a research model is created for the analysis. A survey was conducted with 192 companies operating in various sectors. The findings confirm the dichotomy which is theoretically proposed by the developed typology of the current study between institutional logics and perceived CSR benefits: commercial logic mostly increases CSR benefits for business while social logic increases CSR benefits for society. Furthermore the current study finds out that it is possible for commercial logic to provide CSR benefits for society and social logic to provide CSR benefits for business thanks to some organizational capabilities that allow overcoming the complexity arising from the different organizational prescriptions of competing institutional logics. Thus paradox mindset and multi-stakeholders can enable combined CSR benefits by mediating between incompatible structures of multiple logics. Given the importance of approaching strategically in today's turbulent business environment both academics and practitioners can use this model to achieve CSR benefits simultaneously for both business and society by managing multiple goals.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 10Leveraging corporate sustainability through responsible innovation: Capacity building with exploration and exploitation(WILEY, 2023) Gizem Aras Beger; Bayram Bilge Saglam; Duygu Turker; Turker, Duygu; Beger, Gizem Aras; Saglam, Bayram BilgeThe growing literature on corporate sustainability suggests its positive implications for organizations and stakeholders. In Turkish literature however this interaction has not been studied comprehensively while organizations' CSR relationships especially with their external environment have remained uncertain. The study first aims to reveal the magnitude of the problem in Turkish literature related to CSR/CSR-environment interactions by reviewing the literature. Second it seeks possible remedies for overcoming this problem by examining organizations' relations especially with their external environment within the scope of stakeholder theory. To achieve these aims the study firstly provides a systematic literature review (SLR) based on the Ulakbim Social Sciences Database after some discussion about CSR-organizational environment-stakeholder relationships. This relationship landscape is then examined within the context of stakeholder theory through a traditional review of the international literature. From this analysis a conceptual framework is proposed to explain these relationships. Finally some suggestions are presented for future studies.
