Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Evaluating popular city destinations' websites: A framework for website assessment(Cognizant Communication Corporation 3 Hartsdale Road Elmsford NY 10523-3701, 2009) Gökçe Özdemir; Osman Gök; Ozdemir, Gokce; Gok, OsmanInformation gathering has fundamental effects on travel-related decision-making process. Therefore the special events and festivals are of paramount in terms of enhancing the experience at tourist destinations. The scope of this study is to identify the details of event performance such as the programs of a festival and indoor/outdoor facilities that influence the satisfaction and loyalty of festival visitors. These aspects need to be taken into consideration prior to planning and programming of the events in order to positively influence the visitors' satisfaction and loyalty. In this study the results of the survey carried out during the International Camel Wrestling Festival in Ephesus Turkey are analyzed by multivariate data analysis to determine how visitors' satisfaction and loyalty are associated with the event performance. The study concludes that the festival area has a direct positive effect on visitor satisfaction and loyalty whereas other independent variables such as souvenirs food convenience and staff attributes of festival performance have indirect positive effects.Conference Object IMC Strategies of Festivals in Destination Branding(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2017) Gökçe Özdemir; Duygu Türkmenoğlu; Türkmenoğlu, Duygu; özdemir, Gökçe; A. Kavoura , D.P. Sakas , P. TomarasFestivals are considered as short-term but major attractions by destination marketers. Integrated marketing communications of festivals will be assessed in this study based on the nature of festivals in terms of destination branding. Since destination branding is a common practice to promote the destination’s history lifestyle and culture, festivals are used to create such a reputation by destination marketers. Destination branding is a strategic instrument to publicize a destination’s competitive advantages. Durakbasa , M.G. GençyılmazThe problem of customer order scheduling in a paint company that has five production stages is handled in this study. The production stages are pre-mixing grinding sub-addition quality control and filling. At each of these stages several identical and unrelated parallel machines are available. Customer orders are assigned to exactly one machine at each stage and do not have to be processed in all stages. As a result of the comprehensive literature review our problem is categorized as hybrid flow shop scheduling for the production system of the company. The mathematical model is developed by utilizing the existing studies in the literature. This developed mathematical model is solved and optimal results are obtained for small-size problem instances. According to the analysis of the results generated by the mathematical model and the literature the problem is found to be NP-hard. Since the problem is NP-hard a heuristic algorithm is proposed for the solution of larger job sizes. Considering its convenience and applications in the scheduling literature GA is selected as a heuristic algorithm to solve our proposed model. Utilizing a genetic algorithm jobs are sorted and assigned to the proper machines to minimize the sum of earliness and tardiness. As a novel approach a user-friendly DSS is designed in addition to efficient scheduling. The designed DSS targets to respond to changes made by the user instantly. © 2020 Elsevier B.V. The increase in the number of vehicles on a daily basis in the urban network is causing a continuous deterioration in the traffic situation. This deterioration leads to many detrimental consequences on health, the economy, and the environment. Due to this, it is important to manage the flow of vehicles within these networks efficiently. As an effective intersection design, the roundabout is rapidly gaining attention and popularity among traffic engineers because of its capacity for the mobility of the number of vehicles. This capacity can further be improved through their signalization. The appropriate traffic signal timing concerning the traffic conditions is critical in providing smooth traffic flow. Inappropriate traffic signal timings not only cause delays and inconvenience to drivers but also increase environmental pollution due to excessive fuel consumption and the emission of greenhouse gases. Thus, it is important to investigate the different signal timings to ensure that implemented plan will improve the capacity and the performance of the network. The investigation can be conducted via either field testing or the use of a reliable simulation tool. As the microscopic simulation is safer, less expensive, and faster than field implementation and testing, which is why the simulation models are widely used in both transportation operations and management analysis. Many researchers have made an effort to improve the efficiency of traffic signals using different approaches. However, few studies have been done concerning traffic signal timings at roundabouts. Roundabouts have a different flow dynamic compared to regular intersections. With the increasing use of signalized roundabouts, especially in metropolitan areas, the traffic signal timings of roundabouts need to be studied. This dissertation introduces a simulation-based optimization framework for finding the optimal green phase timings of signal heads located at an isolated and a network of connected signalized roundabouts. In the developed framework, SUMO is used as a simulation tool whereas the genetic algorithm is used as an optimization algorithm. Two realistic simulation models for the roundabouts (isolated and the network) located in downtown Izmir, Turkey are also developed in order to test the frameworks' performances. The results of the proposed frameworks have been compared with the current settings and with Webster's results. It was found the proposed framework outperforms both the current settings and Webster in all performance measures that are outlined in this study.
