Article Formal Trust Assessment with Confidence Probability(KSII-KOR SOC INTERNET INFORMATION, 2015) Mahir Kutay; Tuncay Ercan; Ercan, Tuncay; Kutay, MahirTrust and trustworthiness of web services and organizations is calculated as scalar values. But there is still a certain level of risk for the overall reliability of this value. In this article we focus on calculating trust values as intervals between upper and lower bounds based on predefined confidence values through an additional confidence probability. This will give us a more realistic approach to the trust assessments between individuals and organizations. We also developed a web-based software tool TAST (Trust Assessment Software Tool) that collects the web services' evaluation of different customer groups for similar organizations through the user interface and calculates the trust intervals for predefined and previously selected confidence values. Our model uses a weighted calculation of mean and variances of customer groups in specific periods and analyses the total and incremental trust of different customer groups.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 8Smart cities critical infrastructure recommendations and solutions(Elsevier, 2020) Tuncay Ercan; Mahir Kutay; Ercan, Tuncay; Kutay, MahirIt is very important to know the services and responsibilities of the city administration. Regardless of this objective building a comfortable and sustainable city for the citizens by putting the quality of life at the center of the city is one of these responsibilities. In fact the issue of the way how city administrations change especially with global and technological changes requires a detailed analysis. In this context critical issues like transportation health education energy and environment are among the topics to be examined. Of course rather than providing these services by their names the responsibilities of meeting the services the management procedures the economic and technological situation of the city the forms of urban intervention against the risks and problems that may occur and the sustainability of the service are very important. The reason for looking at these services on a city-specific basis is that urban infrastructures use a large proportion of energy usage outside the large production-oriented facilities. Water energy and transportation are the most critical infrastructures in the growing cities with increasing population. Moreover it is unchanging that in the 2050s probably about 60% of the world’s population will live in cities. In this study recommendations are given about how an ideal city management should be in some of the critical city services and current state-of-the-art studies are listed. © 2022 Elsevier B.V. Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Semantic access control for corporate mobile devices(Springer-Verlag Berlin, 2010) Tuncay Ercan; Mehmet Yildiz; Ercan, Tuncay; Yildiz, MehmetMany of the mobile business applications are executed in different domains as business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) operations. Computing environments of mobile wireless devices owned by individuals or organizations have become totally distributed between peers and partners. Designing applicable access control mechanisms in this environment is difficult from the point of traditional security measures. Semantic web technologies offer appropriate access opportunities to the corporate resources by using related context in user devices and servers under the trust philosophy. Semantic web technology combines user requests and service descriptions for an efficient matchmaking. This paper examines various access control mechanisms and semantically analyzes them. The purpose of this paper is to present a more secure access control mechanism for mobile corporate devices. This model can be used as an additional security framework that enforces access control mechanisms in the organizations. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. Chaki , D. NagamalaiAs the demand for uninterrupted Internet access grows the popularity of wireless communication increases. However wireless communication has some problems compared to conventional wired communication. Especially if widely used Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications are taken into consideration it becomes an important issue to balance the load among available access points. It is impossible to balance the load when wireless hosts associate with an access point by using the classical approach of Received Signal Strength Index (RSSI). Some solutions containing a central server requiring a specific brand of access point or protocol revisions have been proposed previously but none of them has been favored as a generally accepted solution. In this study a proposal which is central server free and requires no modifications to the existing infrastructure is presented. The proposed model is based on a dynamic determination of the least loaded access point to associate with in order to balance load and maximize throughput. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. This study presents the way university students gather their course project requirements during the project elicitation phase how they access the Internet and other resources and their trends in the literature review using the Internet. Furthermore the diversity of Internet resources which are used for homework and course projects studies and the reliability and accessibility of these resources have also been investigated and assessed. In addition the results obtained from the study have been discussed and evaluated the academic resources accessibility and usability in universities have been assessed and their importance discussed. The internet resources have been divided into sub categories according to their accessibility and reliability. Finally the effects of reliable and limited accessible internet resources and unreliable and unlimited internet resources on university students' out-of-class works and projects have been presented and discussed. © The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. In this scope the following main results are obtained: 1) updating the raw data and performing the analysis and mapping operations are realized whenever the meteorological data arrive to the system, 2) end users can realize the mapping of the old raw data and special analysis results, 3) dynamic mapping is provided so that users can perform zoom in zoom out etc. Implementation results showed that the proposed system is very functional and its worst case performance is acceptable according to real-time data analysis standards. © 2023 Elsevier B.V. Díaz-Martínez; Gabriel Piñeres-Espitia; Emiro De-La-Hoz-Franco; Marlon Alberto Piñeres-Melo; Roberto Cesar Morales-Ortega; Juan David De-la-Hoz-Hernández; Pineres-Espitia, Gabriel; Binsawad, Muhammad; Ariza-Colpas, Paola-Patricia; Ercan, Tuncay; De-La-Hoz-Hernandez, Juan-David; Diaz-Martinez, Jorge; Butt, Shariq AzizAgile has been invented to improve and overcome the deficiencies of efficient software development. At present the agile model is used in software development vastly due to its support to both developers and clients resourcefully. Agile methodology increases the interaction between the developer and client to make the software product defect-free. The agile model is getting to be a well-known life cycle model because of its particular features and most owing is to allow changes at any level of the project from the product owner. However on other hand this novel feature is a disadvantage of the agile model due to frequent change requests from the client has increased the cost and time. To overcome cost and time estimation issues different cost estimation techniques are being used in agile development but no one is pertinent for accurate estimation. Therefore this study has proposed a cost estimation technique. The proposed estimation technique is predictions-based and has different categorizations of projects based on user stories complexities and the developer's expertise. We have applied the suggested technique to ongoing projects to find the results and effectiveness. We have used two projects with different sizes and user stories. Both projects have different modules and developers with different expertise. We have used the proposed estimation technique on projects and done a survey session with the teams. This survey session's main objective is to reveal the statistical findings of the proposed solution. We have designed the 12 hypotheses for statistical analysis. © 2022 Elsevier B.V. We observed that the technical management of UGC has a number of issues and is not undertaken efficiently in large enterprises. This study provides review of extensive literature search for the technical issues of UGC globally. Based on the experience of authors in the field and considering the gaps identified it provides a macro level technical management model to address these issues using findings from a number of case studies. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.
